View Full Version : Fed Up: Lightheaded Dizzy

so a while ago i started getting vertigo out of no where. my doc thought it was inner ear infection cuz my lymph nodes were swollen. but since then its transformed into a lightheaded, 24/7, with some times feeling better than others. it really sucks.. its been about 6 or 7 weeks of this CRAP! i've had ct scan, MRI with and w/o contrast, blood work, and its come back normal.. now they're checkin deeper into my thyroid. had mold around my bathroom while back, so we ripped that out. and since i can remember i've had one nasal passage in my nose stuffed up ALL the time.. its either one side or the other. i do have really bad seasonal allergies, mainly spring, and year round stuffyness like i just explained.. so since NO DOCTOR can figure out what the hell is wrong with me, i was wondering if it could be associated with allergies!? and if it is, what can i do to stop this!? also, it seems to get better when i work out, the lightheadness goes away, then creeps back later after im finished. this is just plain lousy, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Scott
Lightheadedness, as you describe, is a sign of an inner ears disorders, especially labyrinthitis or vn. It usually comes on once the dizzyness starts to ease. It is a sign you are getting better. I can understand how frustrated you are with it though.

Of course it could also be something else, but it is usual for inner ears disorders.
Take care

Hey there, just thought id let u kno is that i definately know how you feel. I suffered this for at least 1 whole year where i felt almost like hungover like every single day! (and i dont drink alcohol). Mine was definately due to allergies and sinusitis... but my mum bought me these capsules called Vitagain.. *you'll have to google this for urself, and it helps nasal allergies (this is what was causing the inbalance because my sinus and nasal passage way were blocked causing vertigo). Anyway this helped me heaps and i hardly ever feel nauseas and dizzy anymore! seriously it was my savour. Anyways just thought id let u know just in case you wanted to try something!

I still suffer from really gross PND tho, but its a lot better than PND + nausea all the time.

Good luck!

It sounds like allergies to me. Out of control allergies can mimic sinus infections IME. I also had "normal" CT scans, but my allergist explained to me that it did show allergy irritation, but not sinusitis, which is all the radiologists and ENTs care about.

HAve your tried prescription allergy meds or nosesprays?

I also feel better when I excersise. I think the endorphins released when excersising have an anti-inflammatory effect.

i haven't tried any nosesprays or allergy meds yet. i think i will now though. i have nasonex and some other one. is nasonex pretty good? and also, how long should i expect to use it before i notice an improvement, at least in my sinus blockage?

thanks,
scott

Nasonex is a good spray. It takes a good week or 2 for the nosespray to become fully effective. It helps if you use a saline nosespray first and blow yur nose before using the Nasonex. It will help the nasonex get to the nasal tissue rather than sit on top of mucus. Were you given an antihistimine too?

I have had lightheaded symptoms for 8 years now. It is definitely allergy related. I take Chlorotrimeton and the nasal spray Nasalcrom. Both over the counter and safe. It makes me feel about 99% normal.

BTW - I doubt the Vitagain story very much. Seems like it is 'marketed' to treat almost anything. Has all the earmarks of snake oil. I'm sure someone is lining their pockets nicely at others expense though!

one doc gave me allegra but i havent used it cause i kept thinking the lightheaded off balance garbage was due to something else, but now im beginning to wonder cause i had surgery on ACL and meniscus and wasn't able to exercise at all for 1-2 months. so my nose was always plugged (one nostril or the other) 24/7. cuz normally i can exercise and it clears my head out, and now im just beginning to again, and when i do, my head feels better. but who knows. so i think i might use nasal spray and see if it that helps.. i have constant drainage too down back of throat. i had ***** test for allergies and foudn im allergic to pollen, dust, dust mites, dog dander, cat, grass, and so on.. i havent done trees yet, or food. but the allergist thinks these combined is causing for year round stuffiness. i tell ya when one thing goes wrong everything does. but what do u guys think. should i get on allergy meds or wait till more tests are done for like thyroid and what not? i really doubt i have a thyroid problem though.. who knos. God. haha..

ps. what are the side effects to those drugs cut throat? do they make u feel drowsy or anything?

Scott,

The Chlorotrimeton will make you feel drowsy, but you'll get used to it. It's far better than the lightheaded feeling. Try the Chlorotrimeton first. If you don't get any relief after a week, then add the Nasalcrom. Forget the Allegra. Almost no one here has had relief from that. Hard to believe, but this is better advice than you'll get than seeing 10 different allergists!
