About 5 years ago a hygienist had me start using a waterpik to help control my gum problems. I was told to use about 1 tablespoon of household bleach in the 35oz reservior, as this would help control the bacteria that caused gum problems.
About 6 months ago I changed hygienist and the new one said to stop using bleach because it killed the good bacteria in your mouth and begin using Viadent. Said to use 2 capfuls in the 35oz reservior.
I have found that the bleach was doing a better job controling my gum problem but it leaves a lousy taste in your mouth but you can pop in a few pepperment to get rid of the taste.
I am looking for pro and con to using one over the other and is the bleach killing the good bacteria if there is any in your mouth.
Thanks!

I have to step forward & tell U that I really don't understand the dentists! In
no way are U 2 put hshld-bleach in your mouth. U can die from it if swallowed
& it can cause ulcers in throat or esophagus. Models have been using a Q-tip
dipped in it before the show but have over-done & `got' bleeding gums. I
think they meant hyrdogen peroxide & then overuse causes enamel thinning.
U need to be `gentle' on gum tissue. A periodontist could ck. the pocket
depth for tissue separation. If plaque is deep, they do `plaining' which is a
deep chisel on ea. tooth & smoothing. This allows gums to tighten up to the
tooth. Sonicare toothbrush is a great way to clean & stimulate healthy gums/
teeth but only use 1xday w/ soft brush rest of day. Even a peroxide w/water
mix is a good rinse to heal tissue. Bleeding gums allow food & bacteria to get
into system & actually can make U sick. Bacteria can actually cause heart
problems since it makes its way there & recycles. Try using Gly-Oxide liguid
bot @ pharmacy otc. It will kill germs, heal & also whiten w/ use. Best to use
after brushing @ night. Will bubble when used. Don't swallow & don't rinse.
More vit-C in diet & stope the bleach.
