Hi there

I had all 4 taken out when I was about 21 y/old. I had to have mine taken out in hospital under general anaesthetic. They kept me in overnight. Two of them were still under the gum and they had to cut along the bottom of the gum, extract them and then stitch my gum up again.

It took a couple of weeks to get over really. I used to swill my mouth with salty water about 4 times a day ususally after eating or drinking. My diet was mushy stuff, lots of soup ...... lost a bit of weight. The most painfull bit i remember was how my neck muscles ached presumably where they angled my head and pulled and also my tongue. They must have used a clamp with 4 pads on which went over my tongue cos it hurt for a long time after.

good luck
ktee

I had all my teeth pulled, plus I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth that were so imbedded in the bone he had to hammer and chisel them out. Guess what I was awake. It didn't hurt at all just sounded weird. He then placed 8 implants on top adn 6 on the bottom and immediately attached my new temporary teeth. I was rather swollen but would do it again in a heart beat as it wasn't all that bad just made for a long day. I looked like a raccoon later on though. The swelling was nearly gone in a week.

I am finished now with my permanent beautiful implants.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at the same time (almost 6 years ago) and the bottom two were impacted. Like another poster mentioned, I was also given laughing gas and an IV. It took about 50-60 minutes because they were having a hard time getting one out. After it was over, he asked me how long I thought the procedure took and I said I think it took 5 minutes and I'd do it again any day (I was really out of it). It really felt like nothing at all! He let me listen to my headphones and when I saw how many songs I actually went through on the cd, it was definitely longer than my guess of 5 minutes. :) It took probably a week for me to recover and get the stitches taken out....I drank a lot of ensure and ate things that didn't require chewing. I was miserable when it came to that since I was starving. My jaw was slightly swollen since they were having a tough time getting the bottom ones that were impacted.

when you mention impacted.....does that mean that the tooth was completely under the gum? Or can impaction mean that the tooth has protruded thru the gum as well?

i have both bottom wisdom teeth taht came thru...one half way and sideways and one half way normal........

are these considered impacted?

will this mean that they will be easier to remove?

why do you have to have them removed?

erupted is the term for thru the gum. impacted is when its impacting with another tooth.

guess mine are both partially erupted (bottom only).

i'm 32....does that mean that my procedure will be more difficult since i'm not in that perfect range of late teens-early 20's? want to be brave and get this taken care of but i'm concerned with the possible complications........i know that it's important to get done now.....i'll evenutally do it when i get my nerves completely built up:)

how many of you have had the following symptoms relating to your wisdom teeth prior to removal?

lightheaded
dizzy
headaches
tight jaw
jaw aches
stiff neck

just trying to figure out if these are more TMJ related than caused by my wisdom teeth.

thanks.

Before I had my wisdom teeth out, I had really bad headaches from the pain of 2 of them trying to make their way through the gum. A friend of mine has TMJ and has many of the symptoms you listed.
