Here we go again! Well, I’ve posted a few times about my wisdom teeth being taken out, dry socket, etc. It’s been over two weeks since I had my teeth pulled, over a week since I had my dry socket packed, and I’m still in pain and having problems. Last night when I was flushing out one of my sockets, a piece of tooth came out. I’m sure it’s probably left over from the wisdom tooth, but shouldn’t I be concerned? If there are still fragments in there, shouldn’t they be removed? Also, I’ve had excruciating pain around my lymph nodes and under my jaw. It comes and it goes, but seems to intensify as the day goes on. I’ve had to go back to the oral surgeon 2-3 times since my surgery. I don’t want to have to keep popping pills every 6 hours either. I don’t know if I should call my oral surgeon and say, “something is wrong, fix it” or if these are just things that happen to people and I need to give it time. My schedule is so hectic right now. I don’t want to go in, yet again, for him to tell me, “just take your pain meds and give me a call if you still have pain”. Every time I’ve gone in there that has been his response. He doesn’t answer any of my questions and he spends no more then 5 minutes with me. I spend more time waiting in the lobby and waiting for him to come in the room and see me. For him to brush me off like that makes me feel like I’m making a big deal over nothing. These are things that happen to certain people and it’s just a wait and see kinda deal. Any thoughts, please!

Not normal. I'm confused abt the packing. Usually it's guaze & left open at
1 week to start new tissue fill-in. Sometimes they pak w/ a rubber type substance if holes were left too large where nerve was taken out. They use
it for root canals. That tissue usually is very fast healing with minimal touch/
cleaning. If pieces R coming out, sounds like an oops! U don't want this stuff
healing in w/ tissue & get infected. Have someone use a flashlight to look &
describe if something looks odd or surrounding teeth look chipped during the
procedure. Call ofc. & insist on some type of explanation. Stay calm &
explain concern. It could be that the packing is cracked. I had one just
left open & used anti-bacterial rinse prescribed. Need rx from DDS. It filled in
well in 2 weeks but took 6 mo. before bone built up inside to fill completely.
If glands R swollen /sore, then U may have infection & need a different rx
becuase you're not responding to this one. If you're popping pain meds after
2 weeks, something is wrong. Good luck.

just a quick question, are you a smoker?
About the piece that came out, it is common for the bone arond your wisdom tooth to be fractured when the teeth are taken out. Most of the time, the bone will heal normally, but sometimes, small pieces will work their way to the surface and come out. Feel the area for anything sharp. If you feel something that is sharp, ask the surgeon to remove it. Hope you get better.
