hi everyone

i need some serious advice from you all.
What do you do if you are going overseas for a vacation, but you do not know what foods you'll be able to consume to lose/maintain weight.
I do not want to get back having picked up tons of weight.
I do not know what "diet" foods there are to offer,so what would be a safe mealplan for me...i.e what is availabe wherever you go.

please help

I don't mean to be insensitive but really...do you think you'll gain so much that getting back to a normal diet and lifestyle won't be able to compensate for it? You're going on a vacation...not a lifelong living experience. Just eat all things in moderation...but enjoy! My family is from Louisiana and it is so funny to have people ask how they can go to New Orleans and eat on a diet! Please! Go and enjoy...it will sort itself out when you get back...I mean, how much can you gain in one or two weeks when you are walking all over the place and on the go, go , go? Run or walk an extra mile a day when you get back...you'll be fine...

Just follow the same sort of guidelines that you would at home:

Stay away from buffets. Watch your portion size (especially important when you eat out). Try ordering side dishes or appetizers or half-portions if you won't be able to take leftovers home with you. Avoid the cream-based sauces. Get the salad dressings and sauces on the side. Split indulgences with your travel buddies.

Walk instead of driving. Swim in the hotel pool. Go for a scenic hike.

And don't worry about it too much. After all, it is a vacation! Have fun.

I agree with the other posters in that you shouldn't worry about gaining weight too much...just have fun.

You might even be surprised and find you don't need to find "health foods"; that most everything offered is a health food.

I don't know where your destination is, but I've lived and traveled abroad, and I find most countries, with the exception of a few (including the US), eat extremely healthy, nonprocessed foods. You could even try to look at this as a nutrition learning experience :)

Hope you have a great time & remember to fill us in when you get back!

Ankh: I have a friend who spends the month of June in Paris...and she loses weight every year because she walks so much. We ride far too much in this country...no one walks anywhere...we park at the door of a store or we don't go in. You'll be doing so much there...walking, sightseeing, etc...you don't have to worry. You know what's really bad for you...fried, sweets, butter...just watct them and you'll be fine. Promise!

thanx titchou

you are right.we will probably be walking a lot.....the thing is i want to feel like i have done exercise and i do not know whether that will do the trick though :) plus my family have got their cars they drive around in,so i can't just tell them "see you there" cos i will get lost :(

i will have to control my eating anyway (just in case)....will try and stick to as healthy as possible foods i can find.
