View Full Version : Flax Oil and drinking alcohol?

I recently started taking one teaspoon with breakfast and one teaspoon with dinner of flax oil. It's done wonder's for my mood. My depression seems non existent and I feel great overall.

I haven't drank in a while and I'm supposed to be going to a party this coming weekend and I'm supposed to be getting pretty wasted with some old friends.

Has anyone ever heard of adverse reactions between flax oil and drinking alcohol. A pharmacist told me once that you should never drink alcohol with supplements because they can interact badly. But I figure flax oil, and this is organic flax oil by the way, is just extract from flax seed correct? So I don't see how it's much different than eating other kinds of nuts like peanuts and such. It's not like it's an herbal supplement or something like that.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
I take flaxseed oil & drink at times, too. But if you have a problem with depression, and are using the flaxseed oil for that, than drinking alcohol may counteract the benefits of the flaxseed. Alcohol is a depressant, physically & mentally.

Yeah I know, that's why I'm going to limit the times I party...heck I haven't been drunk in like 2 months ( alot for a 21 year old, come on...).

I'm just wondering if physically it's dangerous or anything. Im guessing not since it's basically just a food.

I'm not taking it specifically for depression. I'm taking it because I was SEVERELY defecient in omega-3's.

Thanks for the reply!

Ok, well this is what I've read on any interactions: there appears to be few if any drug interactions or nutrient reactions with flaxseed oil. It may interfere with the absorption of certain meds, so check with dr or pharmacist on that.
So apparently it shouldn't react badly with alcohol. Although it's possible to have an allergic reaction to flaxseed oil, if you are a person sensitive to it. Seems to be quite safe & useful supplement.
By the way, as far as I've read on it, the optimal dose is 1 tablespoon (= 3 teaspoons)for the most benefit.

Thank you! I love wine. It's always been my drink of choice, even though I don't drink really much at all anymore.
