Hi
My husband and I planned a trip to India at the end of the year. I now discovered that at that time I will be 16 weeks pregnant. Doctors say that it is best not to go to malaria areas while pregnant and that there is not enough research on the safety of the anti malaria drugs. They suggest if I insist on going I should take Mefloquine does anybody now the effects of mefloquine on the unborn child.

Hey, first of all congratulations to you and your husband. :)
I did a quick search for you, it seems there may be risks involved.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10825043&dopt=Abstract
Mefloquine treatment during pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of stillbirth.
I have no experience myself with travelling like that though. Best of luck to you!! :)
