Hi... I have Social Phobia and Agoraphobia. Ive been taking an online medicine called Amoryn for anxiety and depression it works well to reduce my anxiety but it doesnt work to completly treat it. I want to stop taking Amoryn and start taking doctor prescribed medicine like Zoloft, or Lexapro but im not really sure what to do yet. Because Amoryn's main ingridient 5-HP doesnt suppose to combine with SSRI's and can cause "seretoinin syndrome" i believe. Please can someone give me some useful advice? Like do i stop taking Amoryn for a couple weeks then start taking prescribed medicines. Or...? :confused: Please someone help me!!

Roger - I have never taken 5htp but have tried St johns wort. I took it for 6 weeks and did not notice a difference. I mention this because I allowed only one day between stopping this and starting zoloft (day 4 is today) and I have noticed no ill effects aside from the usual SSRI initial side effects. SJW is also reported to cause this syndrome but again I have had no issues although each of us responds differentlty to meds. I would give it a few days before starting to ease your mind.

Ive been taking Amoryn for about 3 months it works great but i want to stop taking it because its not strong enough to control my sp and agoraphobia.

Roger - I guess what I should have said was SJW in combo with an SSRI could cause the syndrome.

Im kind of scared, I dont want any reactions in my brain to happen when taking Zoloft or Lexapro. So im done with Amoryn and im going to wait a week. Then start taking zoloft or lexapro. Is a week long enough? Or wait a little more weeks?

I have read that you are supposed to stop for 14 days before starting but I know people who take 2 ADs together and who take SJW with SSRI and nothing happened. If worried allow the 14 that is in all the lit.

Hey,
I take a low dosage of both 5-HTP and Lexapro and have no ill effects from it. I also used to take St. John's Wort with them too, but it got too expensive. Don't worry.
