I've had mono for about three weeks (diagnosed for two weeks). I was starting to feel a little better, although still tired. Yesterday I spent nine hours at school in classes and doing work. By the time I went home, I started feeling a bit of a sore throat and neck. Today I slept until 2:30, have been exhausted all day, and have a sore throat which is actually worse than my throat when I first got mono (although I hardly had much of a sore throat at all then), my lymph nodes are a little sore (but not as bad as before) and my fever is back (2.5 degrees above normal). Oh, and my sore throat, as before, is just on one side.

Is this normal with mono, to be getting better and then to get worse again? Is it because I overdid it yesterday? Should I go back to the doctor? Will I ever be able to pass my exams, write my papers, and finish the semester???

Mono sucks, to put it honestly. I had it and never quite recovered. I worked 40 hours a week and had a few relapses. You really need to take care of yourself during this time. I would suggest going back to the dr. since your throat hurts more and your fever is back. Everyone has their own recovery time, but after two weeks you should be feeling the same, if not better. As for finishing the semester, I don't know. Are you in college? A lot of schools will really work with you because they know how horrible mono can be. I 'luckily' got it in the summer... when I only had to work full time (LOL). Feel better and keep us posted.

I'm a grad student, so there are some things that I can put off a little, but they are just piling up, and I can't really drop any classes because I will lose my funding. I guess I will call the nurse tomorrow. I swear if I go in and see the doctor again he's going to give me my own office. I've seen him three times in the past three weeks. I just hate to go in and see them again if there isn't anything that they can do, which generally seems to be the case. I'm just sick of laying on the couch (and yet, at the same time, I love my couch....).

I've had Mono for 11 months and the tiredness does flare up at times and completely drain you. I dont think you can take anything for Mono. My doctor told me I have to put up with it which wasn't much help.

Personally I would have a afternoon sleep where possible and dont do too much work or heavy lifting. Heavy lifting is a big no-no with Mono while its still contagious as your spleen is most likely enlarged. Keep drinking plenty and rest as much as possible.

Still feeling bad, or even worse. Talked to the nurse today... seeing my good friend physician assistant Jim again tomorrow. The nurse wasn't impressed with my fever, but considering that my temperature never budges above 96.7 when I'm not sick (and even when I am sick) and never went above 99 at the beginning of the mono, then a temp of 99.1 now seems like a fever to me. So we'll see what Jim has to say.

My temps the same Kehorner. Mine seems to go up at night. Hot flushes is the fever part of Mono. Monoculeosis is called Glandular Fever in UK which probably explains the high temperature.

Well, I slept until 3:00 in the afternoon, and the sore throat was mostly gone when I woke up, although the fever is still hanging around. So I cancelled the appointment because I'm pretty sure it's just more of the mono and not something else on top of it, which is what the nurse was worried about. I'm just so exhausted!!! I could hardly keep myself upright in lab today. Now for another 3 days of sleeping and getting farther and farther behind in my work. Maybe I'll just drop out of school and join the circus as the freak who sleeps all day.

I sleep all day too. Its a miracle when Im out of bed any earlier than 5pm. Mono does get better in time but it can flare up.

One thing I should mention, the sore throat goes or can remain red without actual sore-throat symptoms. Mines red on and off. Mine also started with a bad case of tonsilitis and thats all I thought it was until I fainted and wouldn't eat for a week then lost a stone and a half in weight during that time. I think this happened because I overdid it and wallpapered two bedrooms which is a no-no with Mono.

But dont worry and it will go in a few weeks. :)
