About seven weeks ago I asked my dentist to remove an old metal (gold) overlay that I had on the back of one of my lower front teeth. I was not experiencing any pain or problems with the gold overlay, but had decided to have it removed to facilitate some biofeedback therapy I am doing for allergies. At any rate, the removal went smoothly and I was fitted with a temporary cap...not problem with this... no pain. About four weeks ago, my new porcelain cap was put in and, for about two days, all was well. Then, during a subsequent trip to France, I started to experience some sensitivity in that tooth...mostly when I'd try to bite something chewy (French bread especially). There was no senstivity to temperature; just pressure. At any rate, after a few days this subsided and, except for occasional achiness (which went away promptly after taking an Advil), I had no problems. So, having returned from my trip...still with some intermittent achiness, I decided to visit my dentist. He X-rayed the tooth, did a visual examination and saw nothing out of the ordinary. That same afternoon, I started to experience intense sensitivity and pain. It was Friday (of course!) and so spent that evening and the balance of this weekend taking extra strength ibuprofen and using an analgesic topical gel to get through the intense throbbing and extreme sensiivitiy to pressure and heat. I'm stumped as to what this might be caused by, considering my x-ray was normal. However, the fact that the intense pain and sensitivity to pressure and heat has escalated so quickly has me wondering. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like you need a root canal. X-rays often don't show anything for a long time...
