This is my first post on this board:

I'm in my early 30's and ever since high school, I have been excessively sleepy/tired all day. On the rare occassion that I do have energy, it is usually really late at night [after midnight].

I'm not overweight, and I have many dreams. I can sleep in excess of twelve hours per day easily. I've played sports, etc and am somewhat athletic. I have pretty bad allergies. I am not depressed.

The constant tiredness is really making life not so fun as it could be. Does anyone have any idea as to why I'm so sleepy/tired all the time for over the past 15+ years?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I forgot to mention that I've had my thyroid tested several times and it is at optimal levels.

sleep apnea is possible and often overlooked by docs
heavy snoring or gagging or choking when asleep suggest a sleep disorder, an overnight sleep study is needed from a sleep lab, a referral from a doc is usually needed but contact a sleep lab for details
it can help to taperecord or videotape yourself if you sleep alone

Nancy,
Your story sounds almost identical to mine. Also of note I do not have sleep apnea- my husband says that I do not snore and breath evenly throughout the night.
I constantly dream as well...its so frustrating. I would like to get a sleep test but it seems like a daunting task! Please update if you find out anything new.

You might still have sleep apnea. People with apnea often snore, choke, or gag, during sleep, but not everyone with apnea does this. I don't. Even the tech at the sleep lab told me I don't snore.

If you are having chronic fatigue, and medically everything else checks out okay, it is time for a sleep study! I know it seems like a difficult thing to arrange, but it really isn't. Your doctor can help you. And think how difficult living the rest of your life like this would be!

You do not have to keep going on like this. There are effective treatments available, whether you have apnea, or some other type of sleep disorder.

Good luck.
