B-6 At high levels can cause nerve damage. Do you have Neuropathy?? Anyway all B's are water soluble which means every time you urinate you loose B vitamins including B-6, So drink lots diuretics (water, tea, coffee etc)Unless you are showing symtoms of neuropathy i dont see a problem with continuing to take your B's. harry!

Hi Harry, Thanks for writing, well I had burning in feet, legs and hands before I started the B vitamins, and I did research showing it helps burning etc. ( neuropathy) I have some form of neuropathy the neurologist is trying to figure out where its coming from..I have a herniate disk in my cervical spine c5c 6 and a bulged disk c4c5 so they say it desn't have to do w/ this..then they tested for autoimmune etc. and all negative thus far..I have High b6 so they took me off my B's for now..and I'm burning so bad since I went off them I think they helped me..ohwell...

Hey Lena , although this is not the Neuropathy post, you mentioned here that they have tested you for autoimmune. Did they tell you that to really know if your Neuropathy is Autoimmune you'll need to have a Spinal Fluid sample. I'm in remission of my Autoimmune Neuropathy and doing just fine but thats how they found the source of my problem. Just thought i pass it along. Cheers! harry

Hi Harry, well I did read that about the spinal tap, and I also heard it hurts like heck..ouch! I am getting a bloodtest done this mon for cryoglobulins( abnormal proteins) in the blood...so we'll see...I also have an EMG on wed morning...What kind of auto immune did u have? also did you have burning etc? I really am getting depressed over it its been 8 month and no answers and its still here off and on ...comes and goes very strange thing...I have no idea what it is but I wish to god it would go away..I'm in my early thirties and this is terrible living w/ esp cause I'm usually so active and this just takes the life out of me..
Thanks for writing harry!!

clogged arteries and veins can cause those kind of sensations, but it is doubtful as you don't have pain to go along with it.

It's hard to believe that taking 50 mg of B6 a day could be a problem. Usually when a person has a problem with it they are taking hundreds of milligrams, from what I have read. What do they mean, your levels were 55? 55 what? My son was tested for vitamins and the results were given as a percentage of the control group, and 55 would be on the low side by that measure. 55 by itself is meaningless. Did you mean 3-25 or 3.25?

Why did they take you off all B's when only B6 was high? It is not hard to find the other B's separately. Why did they take you off of B12? B12 has never been shown to cause any harm in any amount. Why off all vitamins? Was something else high? This does not sound logical to me.

Hi Lena~Marie;

I have some of these same questions, pluse how much B6 is bad for neuropathy? I thought the excess in water soluable vitamins just left your body and wasn't stored.

Thanks,

Maureen

the safe upper limit for B-6 is 200mg a day. that is for the typical invidual though. everyones vitamins needs vary considerably and some people need grams a day of certain B vitamins, but even for those people a single dose of vit B-6 shouild neverexceed 200mg. just keep the 200mg amount to mind. unless you've been told otherwise by a qualified practitioner, then take no more than 200mg a day of vit B-6.

Hi all, Thanks for the replies, and I am just as stumped as you guys w/ the questions, all I know is he the neuro said that my levels were very high, he said 55 and its suppose to be between 3-25 or something like that for normal amounts..I don't have a copy of the bloodwork so I don't know exactly, and all I was on was a multi, b50 and b12 sublingual 2 aday and alpha lipoic acid, I have no idea why is was so high, I eat normal, protein, vegetable and a starch for dinner, and I take in kinda alot of protein more than carbs..maybe thats why?? I have no idea, but I feel soooooooooooo sluggish now that I'm off all my vitamins..it stinks..=( I have to be retested in a few weeks..nothing else was high..just b6..all the other bloodwork was normal..also my neuro only did a MRI of my cervical and my thoracic spine not my lumbar, does this make anysense to any of you?? I have burning in legs, feet and hands that come and go...and he didn't MRI my lumbar I think thats the weirdess things..why in the heck wouldn't he just do that it would only be mins more in the test..geezzzzzzzzzz...I'm gonna ask him too why...I have an EMG on wed morn..so..I will ask then..
Thanks Much!!

Hi Lena ! Good luck with your neuro on wed. Its strange on the B-6 being high cause B-6 is always found with other b's together.(grains, beans, meats etc) also Lena a Spinal tap(lumbar punture) was a piece of cake!! I started to fall asleep during the procedure. LOL The auto immune neuropathy is called ''CIDP'' (chronic inflammatory demylating poly neuropathy) Vitamins wont due anything for these neuropathy's. Cheers ! harry!

Hi Harry! Thanks alot for writing..I Looked up CIDP when this suddenly happened to me back in march, and its the same thing as guillian barre syndrome..right?!? I wonder is I have something like this..did yours come and go frequently? also did I ask if you also had burning? was it sensory neuropathy or motor>? or both>? mine is sensory only it seems..I had a bloodtest this morning for cryoglobulins ( abnormal proteins in the blood ) did you have this ever? I'm kinda nervous to see what the results will be on all the upcoming tests, can I ask what is your treatment for CIDP? Did you do a plasma exchange? I think I read about that being a treatment..but then again I have done soooo much research on neuropathy I'm like a medical book..lol My Dr said oh my you know alot about this...lol haha
Thanks for the support!!

Your correct Lena , Cidp and Gbs are sisters and Multiple Sclerosis is the Cousin . And no i dont recieve IVIG,not a cure and bad side effects. Again i attack this head on with nutrition and Omega 3's.(30 gms a day) Although i don't claim this will help others. Many magazines and books have taught me about disease and inflammation and nutritions involvement one way or another.I use myself as a Guinne Pig !! I also know how you feel in your 30's and get neuropathy, mine started at 33. later! harry!

Hi harry, well..I went for my emg/ncs and he said I don't have any nerve damage or problems..Now I'm very confused..I have numbness and burning that comes and goes and its not a nerve problem?!! now I await my bloodwork to see if I have abnormal proteins in it..Hey did you have an EMG? and was it negative? normal!?
Thanks,

If im correct you said your neuro didn't MRI your lumbar, im curious why? When i first showed symptons my neuro MRI my whole spine for compression and for Multiple sclerosis leisions. Also if your not getting answeres nothing says you can't go for a second opinion , thats what i did just for safe keeping !! After all blood test and MRI the only other tests i know of are the Spinal Fluid(lumbar Puncture) theres lot of info in the Fluid, and the last test is a Nerve Biopsy. Hope that helps a little. One last tip what happens when your neuro does a knee jerk tap.(taps your knee to see if it moves upward). harry!

Hey there, well he did all my reflexes and said they are perfect he even said they seem a bit "hyper" so my reflexes are ok and my nerve study was ok..the emg guy said that It could be endocrine related..or maybe it is a virus he said?? he no Dr so..hes guessing too..lol he also said if it was back related at all that I would be in severe pain..I beg to differ~I heard different from different Drs so..Now I await my blood work for cryogobulins, abnormal proteins in my blood..so we'll see, I just wanna feel better..so How were you diagnosed from a spinal tap??? your EMG was good?

They check for about 8 different parameters. High ''Protein Count'' is what confirmed CIDP .
