I, too, have mild swelling right when I wake up. I can tell by my rings. They're just a bit tight until about mid-morning. By the afternoon, everything's back to normal.
Yep, you need to drink more water. I had a heck of a time getting off soda, and I drank a ton! Unless you're having a major health issue caused by all the soda, I don't think there's anything wrong with slowly going off. Try replacing one glass a day with water for a few days. Then another glass of soda with a glass of water. Keep doing that until you're off soda. After a week or two, you'll no longer be drinking it. Not only will this help you lose weight, but you'll notice a big improvement in your complexion, hair, skin, nails, appetite, teeth, a whole host of things...not to get too gross, but things "downstairs" improve, too (urine output/bowel movements).
Good luck!
