View Full Version : My Toothpaste Theory

Hello everyone.

Is it safe or worthwhile for me to put a small coating of toothpaste on my teeth after my initial brushing and rinse before I go to bed? My curiosity has had me doing this for a while in an effort to leave a little toothpaste-flouride in mouth overnight. Does this help my teeth get the flouride they need or am I damaging the enamel, gums etc.?

On a similar note, should I rinse my mouth with water after using Listerine-type rinses? I'm worried that Listerine can damage my teeth because it has a very sweet taste.

Thanks for reading,
Shawn

shawn,
Your idea is good, but why not simply leave excess toothpaste on the teeth after brushing? ie, spit out excess t/paste and don't rinse.
Listerine is probably best avoided, it has a low pH (4.5) which is sufficient to erode enamel and especially dentine which demineralise at pH 5.5 and 6.2 respectively.
It also has a high (40%) alcohol content. Save your money and your teeth!

My dentist said that I should apply very little of toothpaste and wash it thoroghly. Toothpaste make teeth yellow and even can create decay if left.
