Hi,

I have recently been dx with Vestibular Laberynthitus (Virus of inner ear). Along with 2.5 years of strange symptoms (Daily Dizziness, anxiety, panic, blocked ears, panic attacks etc), there is now a new one with comes and goes.

This is going to sound so strange, and I am not crazy (or at least I don't think I am?). When I look at certain people (eg sitting in a chair in front of me), or when I look in the mirror, my vision seems distorted. I dont mean in the blurred sense, but my face doesn't loook as if it's connected to my body. Also, looking at someon else certain shirts they are wearing can play havock with my vision. There head just doesn't look connected to their body.

It's so strange to describe and really quite frightening. But, fortunately it comes and goes....very frightening when I get it tho!

Any idea what this could be?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike. That's a strange one all right. It sounds neurological, rather than ocular, but it's always a good idea to have an eye examination if you haven't had one lately. Ear problems can definitely cause eye problems. Is the VL curable, or is it chronic?

Thanks for your reply! Yep, sure is a strange one! I'm scared to tell anyone in case they think i've lost the plot. Fortunately, it's not that bad all of the time.

Viral Labyrynthitus (or Vestibular Lab as commonly known) is Chronic unfortunately, but hey at least its not progressive (I don't think?).

Looks like I caught a Virus (Hmmm.... Doctors love to use this word when they haven't got a clue what's going on!) or something back in Sept 2003. Started with Altered state of conciousness, Dizziness etc... then came the other symptoms Tinnitus (ringing in ears), muscle aches, carpal tunnel, anciety, depression, panic attacks, headaches, numbness, forgetfullness etc. I probably sound like a hypochondriac but I know my own body and know when somethings not quite right.

The memory loss is very worrying at times... My short term memory is very bad (sorry, why am I on this board? ...... Only kidding > not that bad yet!)

Thankyou for your advice. I may post on the Ear board to see if this is a known symptoms?
