Hi, I just have a very quick question. What schedule number is Ambien, the sleep medication.

Thanks for the info. I ask here since you are all so knowledgeable about the different medications.

I believe it is too. I know i have to sign the Schedule III book when I pick mine up. Same with Lunesta, though it is no where near as good of a drug.

Hangin,

As ARANGER stated, Ambien is a Schedule IV (4) medication. It is a NON-benzodiazepine (i.e., not related to Valium or Xanax or Ativan) hypnotic and is available in 5 mg and 10 mg tablets.

Also, there is a new sustained-release form of Ambien that is also a Schedule IV (4), but I do not know the strength.

Ambien is a Schedule IV and the new SR version is 12.5 mg, I believe. I've been on Ambien for a couple years now and it always has and continues to work quite well for me. I take it to help sleep through the night without waking and needing something for pain. This helps keep the number of meds down. Although it is not reccomended for long term use, the use of this out weighs the alternatives in my case.

Thanks everyone for your replies,

I meant to ask a question and forgot. Is Ambien considered a narcotic? The reason I ask is that I went to get it filled and a real snotty, pharm tech. decided to make me her mark for the day. She told me that Ambien was a narcotic and could not be filled until exactly 30 days. I was there on day 28. She made me so mad, just smiled at me like I was a pile of ####. When she said that is was a narcotic I was pretty sure it wasn't however, when you are hit with such ignorance and for some reason meanness, f I lost words, that day I was not feeling well.

Thanks for letting me vent and all your answers.

Peace and love, Hangin

Hey Hangin: No, Ambien is not considered a narcotic. As for the pharmacy tech, I'm not sure what her problem was, but I've always refilled my meds a day or two before I'm completely out. In fact, my insurance (Blue Cross) will approve a refill when you're 75% through the current month's medication. That would be 22.5 days, so I've refilled many times when we're going out of town or something and never had a problem with it at my pharmacy.
