View Full Version : I am hating my denture adventure so far!

Between my gums feeling like raw hamburger (3 days) can't wear the temps, canker sores, being hungry no solid food, can't talk and a possible infection in one of my back extractions (full upper and partial) being doped up on pain meds, endless saltwater rinses, and missig work, I AM JUST HATING IT!!!

PLEASE PLEASE tell me it gets better- or have I totally ruined my life trying to improve it?????

Waaaaaaaa!

Did you say that you had a full upper denture and a partial on the lower?

Does your denture have plastic or metal hooks?

wintersun, yes it does get better. I know that you hurt and you are questioning what you have done, but in a week you will be able to eat more, and be more comfortable. Call the dentist and tell him you have sores and they should be able to make adjustments to stop the rubbing and relieve that.

CASurfer, I have the metal ones. they seem to be OK. Just got through reading the long thread of denture probs, part II. Glad I did! And of course, I did do gobs of research on this board before I finally decided to do it. I got all emtional, too, after the surgery.
GLAD you guys are here!!

It does get better. Here at close to 4 months post extraction I can eat anything I want. I find myself becoming disappointed that my food is too soft. Just give it time and keep trying. I made a wax cast of my old teeth before I had them removed as a reminder of why I went through all that. It helped. In the end you will be glad you did it. When I was a kid an old family friend finally parted with his last tooth and got dentures. He hated them at first. But eventually he got to liking them like everyone does. It's always hard at first.

Yes, even ater reading this board for a good year beforehand, and hearing all the advice and stories, I still seemed to think it was going to be relatively easy, but it DOES take time and patience!! 5 days now, and my gums ae just eginning NOT to feel like raw hamburger anymore, slowly eating/gumming soft foods, can't seem to wear the teeth- too much pain still!
