I was just at my Dr. for a routine check up. My ibs has really been bad for almost 3 months. She gave a script for miralax but from I am reading on the net it is for "c". I do not have "c' and rarely 'd' my problems is having 6 or more bm's per day. I get a lot of cramping, bloating and gas with this. Will miralax help with this or not. Anyone know of side effects or anything I should be aware of before I get the script filled.

I was taking metamicul and just switched to benefiber and still am in the bathroom this often. The DR. said the miralax would help you to go one good bm a day and help with the gas and bloating.

Any help would be appreciated.

Linda
P.S. I also have diverticulous ( severe)

Miralax is laxative-- I don't see how it could help you.

It is in the class of an osmotic type laxatives like Mlilk of Magnesia, Magnesia Citrate and Epson salts. It draws fluid to your colon to have a BM. It is polyethylene gylcol -- it is the stuff like Go Lytely used to clean you out for colonoscopy exams~~

I would think taking a water soluble fiber supplement would slow down your BMs.

Definitely agree with Harry, I don't see how this could help you.

Talk with your dr.

Thanks so much for the reply.

From what I read I did not understand the logic in me taking this either, now I will not. My husband had a heart attack abot 4 months ago and just last week my bil died suddenly last week, I think the stress started the IBS off again. I do take metamucil every other night and recently switch to benefiber but am going often with either also gassy and bloated. I am thinking of trying citricul next.

Thanks again, Linda

As you may knopw Citrucel does not produce the gas that Metamucil does and it is a water soluble fiber. It certainly is worth a try.

Sorry about your problems but stress is a big factor!!

God Bless~~~Harry
