I dont have a good time acedemically at college. Everything Im good at I seem to suck at here, despite how much effort I put in, and i do well in the things I not only normally am terrible at, but I dont understand. This leads to alot of Ds when I expect As, and things similar. I've always had issues with being pissed off over small things, but these dictate the future of my education. Im 19 and i know that excessive anger is stupid and childish, but yelling horrible expletives and putting my fist through doors and breaking my knuckles isnt something I like to do, its just a result of almost daily enragings at the result of my grades. Please give me some advice, what can I do to curb my rage?

You may want to ask your MD or the school psychiatrist about Risperdal; it's a medication that I take to manage my otherwise uncontrollable anger.

College is a lot different than high school. What came easy to you in high school might need a different approach in college. You might need to spend more time studying and less time thinking "Everything Im good at I seem to suck at here". Talk to a counselor that might be able to assist you. Good luck.

Soldat,

The grading is much more competitive in college than high school, so that takes getting used to as far as grading goes. I agree in that you should talk to your academic councellor on creating a plan that you can work with that won't be so frustrating

As far as the anger goes.....(1) If you go punch anything....do it to a pillow....it's a lot easier on the knuckles and the security deposit for the rental (2) Go exercise till you're exhausted. Anger needs to be vented somehow and rather than beating up inanimate objects, use that energy to get in shape and stay healthy. When you feel that frustration start to build, stop what you are doing and go for a jog, lift some weights, go for a bike ride.....gotta release that energy...that's the key. (3) Make it a rule not to go out drinking when your angry...makes all those anger emotions come out to the surface without any barriers to hold them in place.

If you feel that your anger is something that you have difficulty controling on your own, then go talk to a professional...no shame in that. We all get angry, its a basic human program of survival....its just a matter of channeling that energy properly without breaking bones or walls.

Success Man!!
