Please help me!! Has anyone had experience with severe pain shooting thru back of neck and making ear hurt? I have had this for 2 weeks now, I havent been diagnosed but feel that this is where i am headed, i have hip pain, acid reflux, sore muscles up and down legs, thumbs that hurt, sore knees and sore shoulders, i have watched whatever i have travel thruout my body, but this head and neck thing is by far the worst.
Back to ear, doctors say both ears are clear, thinks my sinuses are messed up and gave me antibiotic, prednisone, and some new antihistamine. Could this be fibro also?
Along with the pain i have experienced inability to clear head, headaches, I know what test is next, I have spent this past year having mri on back, knees, upper gi, 3 times of complete blood work, and a d & c, falling apat is the correct word for it,
#1 symptom lack of sleep
Thanks for listening, any help would be great!!!

sounds like fms to me. Try a dif doctor to get diagnosed. Are you seeing a rheumatologist? Good luck.

Neucindy,
I have FMS (official!) and 'falling apart' is exactly how I described myself to my doc originally. I have a terrible flare-up at present with pains all over my body. As with you my neck has been the worst in this flare-up. I found difene gel rubbed into the neck helped a bit.
Funny you mention your ears, I have found that in past week, along with neck pain I also have ear pain, but the strange thing is that it's not IN my ears, it's around the outside, from the earlobe up around to the top of the ear. I never had it like this before!
I wonder has anyone else had this type of 'outside' ear pain?
Life can be very difficult with FMS especially because you suffer alone,as there are no outward signs of pain. But at least we all have each other here to undestand and get us through our bad episodes.
My doc told me to be gentle with myself,I think he sees that I expect a lot from myself. So you too try to give yourself some time to just BE.

All i have been to see is my gp, but I just changed to him since the summer and he has been good to me in making sure I am always tested for that symptom,
It feels strange to present my many symptoms to him, but I think I may take that "List" that I found on this site with me. I am constantly second-guessing myself, things seem to come and go and I think maybe I am getting better and then along comes something else that completely blows me out of the water like this ear pain. I spent last night in the recliner trying to sleep because my ear hurt so bad, i got a shot for antibiotic and prednisone and was so looking forward to sleep but then I read that steriod keeps you awake, and believe me anything that says it will keep you awake does that to me. The hardest part of all of this is trying to maintain that daytime fascade that everything is good with the world when on the inside i am slowly melting.
Thanks so much for support!!!

I have had fibro for 17 years and falling apart it an accurate assessment. I don't think there is any part of my body that doesn't hurt. I do have a lot of neck and ear pain but I also have TMJ. You might want to ask your doctor if that is a possibility.

Neucindy welcome to the boards. Yes I have had the shooting pains from neck up through head. Doc could not find anything wrong, I now know they were just good old fibro. Still get them occasionally but since I have tried to relax more it has helped.

I have been going weekly for massage therapy. Originally for the FMS tender points and the aches associated with the illness. As my aches and pains improved the therapist focuses on the current findings.
My massage therapist is currently working on cranial sacral release, in hopes of getting the neck muscles to soften along the working on the facial and scalp muscles. She's tempted to see me twice a week for awhile, until there is more progress and then maintain weekly visits until everything is under control.
I never knew the neck had so many muscles, and everyone of them front side and back are tighter then a drum. I, too, have TMJ which causes my right ear to have sharp pains, especially when I pull down on the inner lobe.
I do feel it helps, I'm not sure if its related to FMS, or the Chronic Myofascial Pain disease, I have that too, anyone out there who knows, plz share,
uvm

Another thing are you experience sharp electrical pains and/ or nerve zaps from the back of the neck up through your head?

I am back looking for help again, i am still experiencing head pain but not in the back of the neck, more on the top of head and at least my headache is gone but i have this awful tightness up there, I got a referral to a ENT and he was ready to give me a head ct on thursday but you will not believe that my insurance made me wait for a 2 pre-cert. I was so upset, so now i am going on monday at 4:00. He gave me more prednisone and antibiotic saying he thinks its my sinuses. I was so happy because for 2 days i was pain free and then bam last night I lay down and there it is again. It has been there all day, I have cried, beat my head, my husband has rubbed my head but nothing works, i just went to store and got my xanax refilled because i know that it is going to be a long night. I am trying to do what Glojer told me to do, relax but it is so hard, I hate this, i am so sick, all i can do is pray that like everything associated with this mess that it will pass on to another part of my pitiful body.
Thanks for listening and if anyone has any advice, please let me know, i am literally falling apart!!!
