OK guys, i have got the verdict first hand. It is walgreens COMPANY POLICY to first weight their perscriptions, even class 2 narcotics. They said that they weigh first and THEN they hand count them for accuaracy. I phyiscally say them weighing my meds first and then hand count, so i know for a fact they do weigh! I hope this clears up any confusion, i just wanted u guys to know the 100% truth about this debate! later fellow cp'rs!

I must ave missed this discussion, The weight of a prescription has little to do with the active ingredeant. I also wouldn't take any pharmacict word as gospel. How many time have you been told a partial fill can't be done on a C-2 when in fact it can as long as it's completed within 72 hours. How many times has a pharmacist told you generics are the exact equal to the name brand product. I'm not sure why this "horse" has any less reason to lie than any other pharmy.Weiging in a pharmacy doesn't asure there will be 10 mgs of meth in a methadose tab, in fact a 10mg methadose tab is about twice the size and weight of a roxanne 10 mg tab. Can you point me to the directin of the post where weight of a pill was disccused. Do you know how little 5 mgs actualy is compared to what a 5 mg oxy IR tablet weighs, they use fillers, binders and and there is more in a pill than the active ingredient. Just curious what your talking about.

It was first mentioned as the 23rd post on the "WARNING!Mugged for meds!!!!???" thread.
Here: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showpost.php?p=2030183&postcount=23
I've never heard of a pharmicist using weight to determine quantity prior to reading that post myself

Thanks fibbbles, Their talking about the automated script fillers, There very expensive machines used in very large volume pharmacies, they put the top 50 or 100 movers into the machine and the meds are auto dispensed by wieght. They have to calibrate it for each med and a pharmy should hopefully check it to make sure the right med went in the bottle if any at all.
If the wrong med/strength is entered or put in the wrong compartment when it's filled, it will dispense whatever it believes is in that particluar bin by weight.
Thanks, I was wondering what truth needed to be told.??? I generally don't trust pharmicist, These 100k machines allow pharmacict to do quick fills of frequently used meds.
Take care, Dave

Thanks for clearing it up for me, Shore i was the one that had the problem with the missing pills, It concerned me so when I went back to the pharmacy I was told that they weighed their scripts then dispensed them. It bothered me so I called the headquarters in IL and I am waiting for a response. I have had difficulties with this guy in the past with being unprofessional, he embarrased me in fromt of other customers concerning my medications. I don't have alot of choices of pharmacies
so I am stuck with this Walgreens until I can locate another. I am sure that their policy is to weigh than count but what I worry about is Are they acutally counting once it is weighed? Thanks for listening and I hope that everyone has a wonderful Day!!

when i was mistakenly given 5mg roxicodone instead of 15mg it was shortly after my pharmacy installed this machine.
the pharmacist was baffled that a missfill could have happened because the bottle had the 15mg label w/description yet the pills were 5mg and a different color.
machines make mistakes.they are operated and programmed by people.dont let any pharmacist tell you different

Hi Chaddy
I was also a victim of the machine that I thought counted the pills. But they do weigh them it just makes there job go alot faster unfortunately for us the pill count does come out wrong. I was shorted 14 pills on one script and 12 on another all in the same day. When I called they said they could do nothing about it. Count your meds right there in the pharmacy, dont wait until you get in your car. Those machines do make mistakes and they end up making it hard for us.

Hi everyone,
I am still waiting to hear from Walgreens head office, they said yesterday that they are still investigating. If anyone else has had these problems with Walgreens PLEASE
call their headquarters in Deerfield IL. I think if they get enough complaints then maybe they will change their policy. It amazes me that you could have had a miscount
of that many pills, it is awful for you and the pharmacy needs to know about it. I only had 4 missing but from know on I am counting them before I leave the parking lot.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

On a 90 count oxycontin 20 script I have been shorted numerous times from Walgreens, by from 1 to 4 pills. I have also received as many as 3 extra pills. Just this month I received 89 oxycontin 20's on a script for 90, but on my roxicodone script for 45, I received 46, so it kinda evened out. But isn't it assinine that on two different scripts, they were both inaccurate? It really is appalling the frequency of their quantity dispensing errors, especially on CII scripts that they supposidly have to account for each and every pill. Shore, what do the pharmacists at my local Walgreens do when their monthly running count of CII scripts comes out inaccurately (which it inevitably will)? Do they hide it or cheat or skim the extras for themselves?
