Hi everyone
I need a little help with this subject. I am from south Louisiana (very Deep) and I am going to New York for 2 weeks. Last year when I went there I nearly froze to death cause the climate is so different from here in LA. I have a P/M appt Friday and was wonering if I should ask her for something stronger OR something for b/t. I ran out of my meds up there last yr because I was in so much pain from the cold. Can anyone give me a suggestion about this...if you can I would be forever grateful.
Thanks

While most of us do know that the temp can have a big and sometimes very nasty effect on our types of pain,I don't know if your PM would see it as a reason for more BT meds.I think that would really depend on the Dr,you know?I know the temps have an effect on some of my pain and my PM is also aware of it too.if I really felt like this was going to be some sort of a problem for me if I was going to a different climate for a couple of weeks,I would probably ask her about it.you can always ask and see what they say about it,and also ask if they know of any ways to help that problem if they say no.this may prompt them to possibly rethink it again?who knows, all you can do is try.i would ask though if you really feel that this is going to be a big issue.i mean who wants to go somewhere for a vacation and have to suffer through it because your pain is constantly out of control?let me know what they say.marcia

Hi Marcia,
Thanks for the advice. Although you were the only one who helped me out here I truly appreciated your wise advice. I just got back from Pm appt and my dr upped my meds for the colder climate and gave me alot of advice on how to protect my neck and hip and shoulder during the colder climate. She told me to keep my neek wrapped with a scarf because i have titanium there and my hip has brusitis and I have a torn shoulder. She told me to keep my neck wrapped with something warm so the cold doesnt affect it as bad. She also told me to get polartec underware to keep my shoulder and hip warm. And I bought a nice Columbia jacket for the colder climate. My dr is a wonderful dr and a compasionate dr. She also advised me to get a lock box for my meds because if I were stopped by police and the just saw it hanging out I would more than likely get arrested because the police would think I was selling. She told me to get a lock box to keep it in.
I so much appreciate your reply and I am glad you were the one person to give me help. Your a great girl keep up the good work.

hi mshatch! ladyalaska here, and do i know about colder temps making everything worse! ;) i just logged on today after a few days absent, i wish i had logged on sooner...i am so glad that your doc understood and didn't just look at you like you were just trying to get more meds. after some of the horror stories on this board, docs like yours and mine are few and far between! i appreciated you sharing your tips, i use the scarf one, all the time! but the underwear is good too, funny that i don't use those living here, huh? i have a columbia coat as well as two heavy leather coats, one with fox fur around the neck, i use that one on really cold days. don't laugh at this one but wear long socks under your pants. if my legs, and feet get cold that does me in instantly. i wear my husband's boot socks, thicker bottoms and longer tops, every winter. he didn't know until this year! when he realized they were wearing out and he hadn't been wearing them! opps! :D would those heat wrap things that you find in the pain section of your store help? they stick to you so you wouldn't have to worry about them. anyway good luck and i hope you enjoy your visit, i would love to visit new york! say a prayer at ground zero if you pass it would you? Take care Dawn
