Luvtocamp:

I've been wondering how you are doing. Did your dentist increase your vertical dimension? The dentist I am presently seeing emphasized again last week that it is not for everybody. He says too much vertical is really a problem with denture patients, that dentists make the teeth too tall and then the patients are unable to comfortably rest their jaw with their teeth apart and they have problems with speech. He is gradually REDUCING the height of my new crown and bridge because I am having those same kinds of problems.

Please let me know how things are going.

Marylander,
Sorry to jump to another topic, but are you now seeing Dr. Schwartz in Rockville?

I am being co-treated by Dr. Schwartz (splint therapy) and a dentist who is trying correct my bite, which was messed up by one of those money-grubbing quacks mentioned earlier today.

I had the work done and have been back since and he lower it alittle. I still am having the tight r. throat muscle and r. ear humming. I wonder if I should have him lower it more as it is still higher than oringinally. I did consult with a neuromuscular dentist and she wants $2000 up front. I may have to cough if up and see if she can help.
How are you doing and what are your symptoms now? Is your new dentist helping?

LuvToCamp:

I think I am slowly getting better. I can chew a little soft food now and I was on mostly soup and mashed potatoes before. My new dentist says he needs to gradually lower things so as not to make them unbalanced the other direction. I posted his explanation of why I was having so much trouble in your other thread. He says a lot of dentistry is just common sense, in my case I had had flat molars for 44 years and the dentist this summer replaced them with very sharp and pointed teeth, and I just keep running my back teeth together when I chew because I'm used to making a low grinding motion to chew and not the chop-chop motion people with naturally steep teeth have. I think I just need to be patient and he will get it balanced in a few weeks.

I'm glad to hear your improving. Sounds like you found a good dentist. It sure is a slow process. If your like me you probably can't wait to start eating again. A nice salad with all the veggies on top is my fantasy now.

Oh Marylander, so sorry about the money grubber, that's just what I'm talking about, how scary, was it someone literally listed here in someone's post? lordy I will try to get a hint and stay away! Hope you find relief and glad to hear a good recommend for Schwartz. I called and he was booked for 10 weeks, so really pleaded (ok not to proud to beg lol) and they have me going to see him in Mt. Airy Dec 1.
good luck to you

He hasn't been mentioned in anyone's posts here recently by name, no.

Glad you can see Dr. Schwartz sooner. He is very very conservative in his treatment methods. His prices are reasonable, and if your insurance doesn't cover TMJ (mine does not), they have a self-pay schedule that is even less expensive.

Marylander,
Well I think he made the verticle too high-you were right. I've been in for one adj. and need to go back. He said he will take a little off at a time. As you know I've been thinking of going to another dentist but my perio , whom I trust and value his opinion and who is also the president of the dental society here told me to stick with the dentist I have, so I guess I will. He said he highly recommends him.
Besides being hungry for a salad, I would love love love to have a big bowl of buttered popcorn- someday. It doesn't look like I'll be having Turkey for Thanksgiving either, oh well I can have mashed potatoes, dressing and pumpkin pie. Sounds like I'm starving but I'm not!!!!

I hope you find the right height soon. I have another adjustment tomorrow and he'll take a bit more off. I know eventually it will be just perfect, I just have to be patient!

Have you tried putting turkey or other meat in the blender or food processor? I didn't like the idea before I tried it...seemed like it was giving in...but my husband chops meat up for me into a very fine hash that I don't really have to chew but I can taste. Not steak, of course, but we've done chicken, shrimp, and pork that way.

Hi- yes I did put pork roast in the blender and it turned out well. I have been eating salmon and fish patties, sphagetti, mashed pots, steamed veggies, oatmeal, lots of veggie soups. I can also eat like scrambled eggs and hash. Really theres a lot to eat- and I'm trying to eat healthy and take my vits. My weight has pretty much stayed the same.
Hope you adjustment goes well tomorrow. If hes like my dentist he just takes a little at a time off, I think they are afraid of going to low.
Let us know how it goes. I go back on Fri.

Yes, they have to be careful of going too low. Objectively I understand that, but of course I want the right height NOW! I am eating much the same kind of food you are now, before he started adjusting I was drinking too many milkshakes and not getting the right nutrition. I know I feel better generally now besides the TMJ part.

Hope your appointment goes well on Friday.

Luvtocamp:

I am embarrassed to say that I forgot. I will try to remember next week (Wednesday). Today he worked exclusively in the area where the new restorations are steep and the old ones are flat. He said he was getting marks that showed him I was definitely catching the flat tooth on top of the steep cusp and hitting in only one place instead of occluding on the full mouth. I think I am definitely making progress. He told me to plan on trying to eat a little turkey to see how it goes.

Marylander,
Glad you are making progress and going to chew a little turkey. Hope it goes well. He is slowly lowering my bite, but he says he don't want to go lower as I won't have room left for teeth. My major symptoms now are spasms and the muscles on my scalp.
I am starting to think my problems are becoming psych after dealing so long with this.
Thats ok you forgot to ask him but try to remember if you can.. I am trying to get all the opinions about this I can. How do you feel after a bite adjustment- better or a little worst that day? I usually feel a little worst that day because of the biting down all the time. Hope it goes well Wed.

Yes, usually a little sore that day but better the second day.
