At what age should you start consider getting a bone density test? And should asian consider getting one at earlier age since our bones are more porous.

Does ostoeporosis run in your family? If so, at what age was your family member diagnosed. You could use that as a guide. Most insurances want you to be 50 years old before they will pay unless there is a documented concern earlier. It can't hurt to ask your doctor for one.

I guess i'm wondering about it b/c both me and my mom are considered very light for our figure. Someone that looks exactly my size are usually 10 to 20lbs heavier than me and the only explaination i can think of other than lack of muscle is light bone. So, I guess i should first ask my mom to get herself tested. :)

Another rule of thumb, if you have ever taken prednisone for 3 months or more, it is wise to have a baseline DEXA done regardless of your age.

I do take prednisone quite often for my asthma, but usually just for a 10day range. BUt in the past year or so, my allergist has perscribed me to use it several times. And is there any other drugs that matters as well. I'm taking quite a lot of pills now.

Also, what does DEXA stand for?
