Hi, just wondering if anyone out there could help me or knows what migth be going on. I have had iritis for about 10 years. I've only ever had 5 bouts of it, and aside from the first time it usually clears up quite quickly with eye drops. My mom also has it but she gets it several times a year. I recently had another bout which started about a week ago. However for about teh last five days i have been having pain in my upper back and shoulders. Its mostly in the left lower shoudler/back, but seems to be radiating - sometimes to the other side of my back, down my left arm or up my neck. At times it feels kind of cold and hot at the same time. I know iritis can be completely benign but can also be associated with other conditions. I'm just wondering if these symptoms sound familiar to anyone and if they could be at all related. I was tested for the genetic marker for Reiters syndrome and ankylosing spondilitis when I first got iritis 10 years ago, but it came back negative. Many thanks for anyone who can offer me any knowledge and advice!!!

Hi Nordy: You already know the diseases that can be connected with iritis--like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, so I can't add anything. My daughter's had two bouts of iritis. Whatever blood tests they did were negative. She has a slight curvature of the upper spine that is hereditary, although I don't know if there is any name for it.
It would certainly appear that iritis is hereditary in your case, since it's not a very common disease.
Sorry I can't really be of any help.
