View Full Version : tonsil still not 'normal' after antibiotics

I just recently had strep (a 'beta' strep...to be precise)... and a case that wasn't really that painful. Noticed my tonsil..(more my left than my right) was swollen and had alot of phlegm. Also... could feel the bottom of that left tonsil..almost kind of hitting the back of my tounge with kind of a rough feeling to it. So the doc put me on antibiotics... ( a Z pak... 5 day course)... while the sweeling has gone down... and I'm no way near as phlegmy... that left tonsil is still fairly swollen and I can still feel that rough feeling of it occasionally touching/meeting the back of my tougne. While there are no white bumps or anything like that (there never really was with this particular case of strep this time)... there definitely is a few crevices/holes on the tonsil. In doing some reading online about tonsiltis/strep, etc... some websites have said this is normal, after antibiotic treatment. Anyone else experience this?? Thanks, - Matt

My daughter had a tonsil that was larger than the other. We took her to an ENT and figured on the way there that this was going to be our first "official" parental decision to be made. "Whether or not to have them out". Well, when the ENT seen the difference in size of her tonsils, they made the decision for us. They needed to come out.

You may want to try another course of antibiotics and see if it returns to normal. My daughter had had 2 or 3 seperated courses.
