View Full Version : IT'S LIKE PULLING TEETH

Got a question!
I have an abscess in my top right molar and it's quite painful! I'm going to the dentist in 5 days to hopefully get some antibiotics and schedule a time to have it pulled!
What I need to know is if anyone has had any type of experience with having an abscessed tooth pulled? A friend of mine did and they put her to sleep for it.

Is this normal? I REALLY want to be put to sleep, I'm very sensitive about things going on in my mouth and the pain is unbearable without me touching it, I can't even imagine the pain when he tries to yank it!

Can someone PLEASE shed some light on this?

Also, I have a bit of pain in one of lower back teeth, on the same side (right) as the abscessed tooth!
Is there any chance that it spread to another tooth?
I tried to find information online but every page seemed to be a clone of the previous!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Had a doozer of an absess 7 years ago, went on antibiotics for 4 days, there was no difference, actually the pain and swelling got worse during those 4 days until I was in so much pain that I went storming into my dentists office and just plain told him to yank the darn thing outta my mouth then & there. WOW did that ever hurt, suffered for one evening until everything drained, kept taking tylenol 3's that evening, they didn't even fizz on the pain.
If your dentist is equipped for sedation in his office then go that route, but if you have to wait for a hospital appointment for sedation which can take several months....wellll good luck trying to bear with the pain while you wait. I've been sedated twice for major dental work and it totally amazes me at how painless the procedure is, woke up as if nothing had happened. A dental surgeon has renewed my lost faith in dentists.
From my experience with more than one absess that I have had....yes the pain does spread to other teeth, in my opinion it's probably the infection that affects nerves to the other teeth, I know what you're going through, hate being put on the waiting list and having to suffer. Hopefully your dentist will be able to do something a.s.a.p.
By the way I see you're from Ontario.... are you in northern, central or southern?
I'm up north in Shania's home town.

YOUE KIDDING!
I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN TIMMINS UNTIL I WAS 18!
I live in Mississauga now, I moved from Timmins in the summer of 2000!
Thanks for the information, although doctors down here are much better than Timmins ones, as we all know!
I took Tylenol 1s last night and the pain is gone! I am going to ask to be put to sleep for sure, and I'll go from there! My boyfriend had 2 teeth pulled and he was awake for them! He said he didn't feel anything, but he could hear all the gross noises! Ah well, pain never killed anyone I guess!

And I thought the same about the other tooth hurting, cause it sure feels like the nerve!

aaaahhh yes the ol' stories about Timmins doctors.....how true, and when we finally do get a good one he/she will eventually pack their bags and head down to Toronto, probably to avoid the blackflies and mosquitoes up here, LOL.

Best wishes with your appointment.
