Where are the lymph nodes located on the back of your head? When I put my head against a head rest today, I noticed a tender spot on the back of my head. When I felt, I located the spot which is right on the edge or ridge of the bump where the skull kind of meets the neck. It is difficult to tell if there is a lump there or not, as the skull itself already has a large bump. It feels as though the spot that is tender/sore is slightly more raised, however, and it is as hard as the bone around it. I can't tell if it is an abnormal bump or part of my head, although it does feel a little different than the other side. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I had almost exactly the same thing. Both sides of the back of my head have raised bumps which yes, are lymph nodes. Several months ago the one on the left side swelled more and got very tender. I had a sinus infection which went all the way down to my gum and infected it, and that was causing the problem. A course of antibiotics took care of it. Almost always a swollen and sore lymph node indicates an infection.

Back in my "wilder younger days" I fell asleep by a swimming pool--woke up couple hours later...When showering and shampooing I noticed two swollen "objects" on my scalp--ticks" after removing them I applied some antiseptic...but lo, the next morning my entire back of head had horizontal rows of swollen lymph glands...also broke out with a "rash"--Doctor put me on some antibiotics, fearing a rickettsial type disease...evidently, according to Doctor, the head has lots of lymph glands for our protection.
