I am 20 years old, and never been pregnant. My monthly has been irregular since I lost my virginity two years ago. It will skip months and come back for maybe one or two weeks at a time then skip a few more months, very rarely has it been normal. I had a major scare in Janurary of this year. As usual it started very heavily and (excuse me for being graphic) clumpy. After a week it got heavier and more clumpy with cramps. I figured it was nothing. Well after a few weeks of being really busy and not really paying it no mind I realized it was over a month that the cycle had started. Went to the emergency room and the doc gave me a 7 day perscription of a substitute for provera and said it would set my "monthly friend" straight. Okay, on the 3rd day of taking it with relief the bleeding stopped, only to come back 3 days later worse than before. Finished off the perscription and when the bleeding didn't stop for another 2 weeks I went back to the ER and they sent me back with the same perscription except it was for 10 days. I took it, same results... it came back 3 times worse and it wa starting to turn black and dry. I was pissed and couldn't bring myself to go back to the doctor, didn't want to do something I would've regretted (also had a bad case of PMS and was easily angered). So let it continue on instead, I don't have the money or insurance to see a doctor. It FINALLY stopped at the beginning of April and did not start another cycle until the end of May. Fast foward since it was doing the same as before (coming and going the month after next or whenever it wanted) unitl recently. Two weeks ago... no three now... (Halloween) It started as usual, and lasted for a week and a half. Last Sunday it came back and stopped on Thursday. I bled a little on Saturday. Anyway it's coming and going, driving me crazy cuz I have no idea what is wrong with me and I'm afraid of going to see a doc w/o insurance. What is this? What can I do to stop it? Will birth control help or not???? This is scaring me, I want to have children but with this going on I believe it might be impossible.

Do you have a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area? They will see you for little to no money. I think it's sliding scale. Sounds like you may be having a hormonal imbalance. It could be anything from a thyroid problem to PCOS. Either way, you need to get it checked out. Best of luck to you.

Birth control may regulate your cycle, but I agree with greenjppixie, you really need to get it check out. In the area where I live there is a health clinic that people can go to. THey charge you base on your income. May be you can also look into that. hope you feel better.

I just finished calling every clinic nearby and they want more than what I can afford. These people love to drain the wallets.

I used Planned Parenthood when I was your age and they just asked me what I could afford. I don't know if it's still that way, but I know they will see you for free if you can't afford it. I think birth control pills would help regulate you, but you should be seen by a professional, whether it's at Planned Parenthood or some other clinic.

By the way, maybe those clinics you talked to would take payments instead of making you pay all at once...it wouldn't hurt to ask. I still do that for our hospital copayments because sometimes, even with insurance, it's hard to pay for things.
