Greeneyesofblue 11-14-2005, 12:55 PM What is this? I need a foot masseuse on staff. Sponsor Misty800 11-14-2005, 02:53 PM Most likely heel spurs or beginning of plantar fasciitis. SamQKitty 11-15-2005, 12:15 AM Try getting heel cups and wearing them in your shoes at all times. You can get Dr. Scholl's at any drug store. They usually have a gel center, which is kinder to your heel than a hard sole. I had this problem after chemotherapy which caused some nerve damage to my feet, especially my left heel. My rheumatologist recommended the heels cups, and I wore them daily for several months...the pain went away and has not returned. Ruth P.S. I actually bought 3 pair, so I didn't have to remember to move them every time I changed shoes. Greeneyesofblue 11-15-2005, 01:37 PM Is this from the diabetes? SamQKitty 11-15-2005, 03:36 PM It could be from the diabetes, or it could be a condition called plantar fasciitis, or it could be another type of condition called tarsal tunnel syndrome. Regardless, the heel cups should help. If it's from diabetes, you would be wise to try to get better control of your blood sugar levels to prevent further damage. There's also some anectodal evidence that taking alpha lipoic acid (ALA) and/or gamma lipoic acid (GLA) can help reverse diabetic neuropathy. If you do a search, you should be able to find some info on how much ALA/GLA to take. It does take quite a while (up to several months) for this treatment to have a noticeable effect. If it's either tarsal tunnel or plantar fasciitis, the cups will help, but you may also want to see a podiatrist for suggested exercises that can help take the pressure off the damaged nerve. Ruth |
