I had a partial hyst in octber. Felt great with the whole healing process and feeling completely healed except the fact that I totaly lost it this weekend. I was sobbing one minute and screaming the next and then sweet as pie the next. My family probably cant stand me right now, but are to afraid to say so!!!! I had only one overy and my uterus removed. I now have hot falshes that are out of control and these horrable mood swings. I'm 32 and trying to decide if I should go on some estrogen has anyone been like this after a partial and do you have to stay on estrogen for along time? Could this be my body trying to start menopause? Help please if you have answers!!!
PS I could sleep the whole day away and not even care.(so exhausted!!) JEN

Having a hyst is a shock to your system and will take time to level out. I had the same problems you are when I had only the uterus removed. Your hormones go swinging here and there. I did eventually take Premarin and was on it for 27 years. They now say not to take estrogen long term, but, you may need something to get you over the hump.

Sorry to hear about your raging hormones Jennifer. I had a radical hysterectomy 1 year ago and boy some of the things you are talking about sure hit home with me. About a month after my surgery, I too started going through a depression. I slept about 3 hours a day, lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks because I could not eat and cried ALL the time for no reason and was angry most of the time. I take estrogen now and anti-depressants and highly recommend both. I kind of figured that life was too short to live it in the mental shape I was in. Just to let you know, some of the depression is coming back a bit and I think it has something to do with my anniversary date coming up on Saturday and my visit to the oncologist on Thursday.
Good luck Jennifer and seriously consider the hormone replacements and anti-depressants. Lofer

I had a complete hysto March 1 and imediately had meno symptoms. Was put on climara patch and doing much better.Although I still have occasional hot flashes and mood swings I'm far worse without it.There are good days and bad days but the hormones definately help.I've been told that surgical meno is usually treated for 5 years with hormones but not sure though.I guess it depends on age and person.I'm 30.I also take lexapro for depression. When I started it with the patch noticed a big difference in moods.I feel better when on it as well.Having such a change to your life alone can cause emotional issues but hormones can be a real pain.

Jen,
How are the hormones working for you? If they are working, how long did it take? I just called my doctor today, about six weeks after my total hyst (I had everything taken out due to colorectal cancer...also had surgery at the same time to remove my rectum, part of my colon, and have a temporary ileostomy now...). Anyway, I have found the depression and crying getting worse each day. I am also 32 and am feeling just as you describe. My gyn onc is calling in a hormone prescription for me today. I am hoping it will help. I have never been one to cry and have no control over my emotions before...it is an unsettling experience.
Thanks and good luck

Hi Cats
I see you on the colon boards and have spent a great deal of time there myself due to my husbands(stage 4 survivor.... yeah :bouncing: ) and mother's colon cancer . Anyhow, just wanted to say that I sympathise with your depression. I had to have a hysterectomy last April and I still find myself hitting low points. Now you have had to deal with a whole lot more and it is a long journey for you.
It is excellent that you are trying the hormone scipt and it is worthwhile to document each day how good/bad/indifferent you are feeling. Its also a great way to give you a feeling of control over your health. It sometimes takes a couple of attempts to get the right hormone and dosage for each person.
I would also advocate talking to your oncos or docs about something to help your depression too. It might be worthwhile posting on the colon board cos CDad has some good advice on this subject.
Good luck

Hi Ktee,
Fancy meeting you here! Thanks for the info. Since I had so much done at once, I'm never sure where the best place to post is... They put me on premarin .625. I think it has helped my mood swings...haven't cried since I went on it, which is a big thing. (The depression was unbelievable...I was not myself at all.) However, I feel as though the hot flashes and night sweats are worse!? Also I have a horrible taste in my mouth that won't go away...wonder if it is from that. I was hoping to get things stable before I start up with chemo again...
Thanks again for the post....maybe I'll ask CD for some advice, too. He has been a great source of info for me!
Take care...Glad your hubby is doing well...hope '06 brings good health for all.

crying upset also. my family had never seen me that way. On 2 mg. estriadol and wellbutrin-150 mg sr. Feel great now. Right after my hyst. I had night sweats and rarely slept over 2 hrs. I was a mess. Literally nuts! Found elizabeth vliets book-screaming to be heard. It helped me figure out what was going on and what to do. Dont do equine based estrogen. Be sure you are on 17 alpha beta estrogen. It is identical to what the human body produces. You probably need a smidge of testosterone. You husband will love you for it and it just makes you feel better. You wont need that until the 6 weeks are up. I am 52 have done tons of research to get myself back to human. Doctors sometimes just dont get it. Be sure yours is really listening. He or she should have never let you go without estrogen. That is absurd!!!!!!!!!

Hi gocatsgo,
Just wanted to say, that I am on the same dose of premarin as you. Before my TAH with ovaries and tubes removed and bladder lift, I had already gone thru menopause. I was on prempro 0.45 and that worked ok.
This current premarin dose is working ok, for now. I do have a few little yelling and disagreements with hubby. I guess it is party because I am still recuperating and must let him do things his way. I am still not supposed to do any housework and life anything over 5 lbs.
