Had hysto 9 months ago am now taking climara 0.06.How long does surgical menopause last?I am only 30, and afraid of breast cancer. But can not handle meno.Am still a grouch with hormones and having flashes, but far worse without. Is end in sight? Also when I stop will I still need meds for sex? Will I still go through natural later?Doctor on possible permanent leave, still in doctor limbo.
I am 6 months post op and have NO IDEA how long it lasts. I am on 0.05 mg Estroderm.
I am going back to my OB because having a real hard time with meno plus now possible anxiet attacks with it.
I gues it depends on the person.
I hope you feel better

I had my hysto 7 years ago when I was 31. I'm on Climara also but a higher dose. I also use an Estring (stays in vagina for 3 mos) because I was getting lots of infections and the tissue in there wasn't healthy because of the lack of hormones. I can't go without hormones however I am now using my patch like every other week. Don't really notice to many side effects. I don't know how long I'll need them or if I'll go through meno again in my 50's.
I totally understand your frustration. It's a huge shock to the body and it plays a huge part in other parts of your body. I've since had to start anxiety meds because I started having panic attacks after surgery. Therapist told me that the female hormones play a big part in the function of your body. I've had to deal with many issues since surgery but things do finally level out. It took me a couple of years to find the right meds and balance out.

Can you tell me what your symptoms are??

Hi,
Well, mine started almost immediately. I just feel anxious all the time sometimes like I can't breathe and very overwhelmed. I may have several things to do but I get so anxious that I can't seem to do anything. I was never like this before.
When this started I went to my gyn who did surgery and she tweaked and changed my hormones for a while. When that didn't work and I went back in she looked at me (with all of her parts still in tact) and said, "I've done everything for you. You are on the same hormones that your body would be making and if thats not working then it's in your head".
I haven't been back to see her since. I did go to see a therapist that told me it was not in my head. He said that our natural hormones trigger many things in our body and in the brain. He compared it to now unconnected wires that are misfiring (sp). I felt much better having my problems validated but I still needed the meds. I take Buspar and it helps some but doesn't completely control it.

You mentioned your tissue isn't right what kind of probs did you have?I've been spotting and recently gushed buckets and had to go to ER after sex.Was told it was scar tissue that had torn and not healed.

The incision where the cervix was removed kept trying to re-grow. I had new blood vessels that would bleed after we had sex. I had to have them cauterized several times and haven't had any problems since. I think it was called granulation or something like that.

I don't know what climara is, but I was on Premarin (Hormone Replacement) for 15 Years. I had breast exams and made out okay with no problems. I had a full hysterectomy, so I needed the hormones to help take the edge off the menopause.. I guess it is a personal decision along with your physician whether you should stay on them. As soon as I turned 50, I was taken off them. I almost missed them because I knew I felt better with them than without. I tried going off them for a bit when I was younger, but really could feel the difference. Best of luck to you in your decision
