Please please please someone help me out or put me in the right direction.....this thing with my hands have been going on for the past 2 years about this time of year,,,,,when the weather changes, whenever i sit and type like right now both my hands go kinda tingly, never really numb and when i drive the same thing happens, as long as i take then off the keyboard or the wheel and hang them down it goes right away...last month i went to a dr because a few of my fingers were going numb and even more so when i was sleeping and i am not having that right now, but i was wondering if thei tingly in both hands when i type or drive is part of carpal tunnel...not sure how to spell it............this is a very uncomfortable feeling, not as bad as last moth when everything was going to sleep, but i also have been dx with TMJ, so if anyone has ahd anything similar or know what i am feeling please write to me good bad of otherwise, i need help it is scaring me.......thanks.....CHRISTINE

Your symptoms sound like they might be carpal tunnel. What did your doctor say when you saw him about it before? An EMG is a test that could be done to help diagnose Carpal tunnel.

Hi TChris,
My Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) symptoms were very similar to yours. I was constantly trying to find a comfy position while using the computer but never could. The nighttime symptoms were soooo much better when I bought wrist splints! (Pick them up at any drug store, you'll be glad you did!)
When I finally sought medical help was when my hands hurt to even grip the steering wheel. I didn't relate this pain to CTS though because it seemed to just be pain - not accompanied with the usual tingling and numbness.
The neurologist that did my EMG said pain gripping the steering wheel is one of the prime complaints of significant compression of the nerve. Who knew?!
I eventually booked surgery and I cannot tell you how happy I am with the results. The recovery was pretty painful, but gosh I'm glad I'm not dealing with that every day the way I was.
Some folks get better without surgery so I'm hoping you'll be one of them. As mentioned, avoiding the trigger activities and wearing the splints can really help.
Hope you feel better soon.
