All I can say is be extremely careful with the diabetes. Keep it under extremely tight control. I have macular edema from letting my diabetes go unchecked and I have lost much vision in my left eye and some in the right as well. I am still able to drive, but slowly and very carefully. Do bright lights bother your vision? Is it hard with the sun during the day? My vision loss was sudden and very scary. One week it was just annoying and I thought I needed stronger glasses and the next week I couldn't read the newspaper.
Please see your doctor asap. Once the damage is done it's irreversible and can only be stabilized with unpleasant laser surgeries, injections, etc.
Let us know what your doctor tells you. I hope you are going to a good opthomalogist. Don't take this lightly.

I just noticed that you have had eye infections lately and your eyes are red. Maybe the symptoms are a result of that? Did you go to the doctor for treatment with the infections?
I would think an angiogram might help diagnose your problem. See a good doctor, please.

You don't say if you wear glasses. It's hard to tell from your post if you have true double vision or just bad acuity.
