View Full Version : eye twitching after getting chemicals in eye

Tuesday night I accidentally squirted myself in the eye w/ toilet bowl cleaner. I read the warning label on the cleaner (with my one good eye) and it said to rinse my eye for 15 minutes (which I did, and was not fun). it also said to call poison control but I figured since so little cleaner got in my eye and since it didn't burn anymore I'd be fine.

but now for the past two days my eye has been randomly twitching. it has never done this before. it also isn't the lid twitching. I can feel the eyeball muscles moving to the left underneath the lid. the twitchings last for only a couple of seconds, and they happen about once every 15 minutes.

my guess is that I upset my eye with the water when I was rinsing. should I be worried? should I get it looked at?

That's very strange. How's your vision? The cleaner would have burned your cornea. I doubt it could have had any effect on the eye muscles, especially since you rinsed it out immediately. If your cornea is clear and your vision is not blurry and your eye is not sore, I wouldn't worry too much about the twitch. If it persists, of course see a doctor.
