Alright, my friend is pregnant and due in about 2 weeks, and she told me u have to wash all of your baby's clothes in a special baby laundry detergent to avoid skin irritation. Is this true? I had never ever heard of it-my mom who has 10 kids most certainly has never done that and none of us had any skin irritation. Her doctor didn't tell her to do it, her mom actually told her it. And she also said u can't use dryer sheets on baby's clothes-tho I forget what the reason was. Any truth to these?

Some kids are more sensitive then others. I had to wash my kids clothing in a baby detergent because otherwise they got rashes. However, I have friends that used plain old Tide and their kids were fine.

You can use regular detergent, just use less than what you usually do. I wash my sons clothes in ALL Baby. You aren't suppose to use dryer sheets because they affect the fire-resistance in baby's clothing.

I use detergents that are free of dyes and purfumes. I think we are bombared by all these chemical all the time. I like to cut back when I can. Remember the movie The Incredible Shrinking Woman LOL

Something else that's important is to make sure that the clothes are rinsed completely clean. With every load of laundry I do, I always put it through an extra rinse cycle. All the rashes we used to get -- gone.
You can also use plain vinegar in the rinse cycle to get rid of any extra residue that might be lingering on the clothes.
