hi i had a gluclose tolerance test the other day.i have been glucose intolerant for many years now.i had the test the other day and the results were, fasting 5.9 or 106.insulin levels were 65.normal range was 15-130 for insulin levels.
1 hr gluclose was7.8 or 138.6insulin levels were 367.again normal range was between 15-130. 2 hour gluclose was 7.9 insulin levels were 392.same range 15-130.my regular gp was not there this doc said to start metformin.i dont see these numbers really high at all. i guess my question is after the 2 hour my numbers went up a little instead of going down. does that seem like a problem or not. also i know my insulin levels were very high witch does concern me.i am from canada so we have different lab readings here im sure.so here is why im concerned.for years now i have had leg pains poor blurry vision, dizziness has been getting worse all the time i constntly have mouth sores ,have had my eyes checked i do have a cateract but the blurriness gets better and worse through out the day.i just dont feel well . im sure when my docter gets back she will not think these numbers are high.has any one had thier insulin levels checked and if so will they make you feel all these symptoms i read they should not.i would apreciate any in put i am so confused this has been going on for far to long.most people with these readings would feel fine im sure....thanxs for listening ,,,,,tammy

Those blood sugar readings aren't too bad. But those insulin levels are very high. Which must mean that you are very insulin resistant and your poor old pancreas is working overtime to produce enough insulin to keep your blood sugar down. It could mean that you have caught the diabetes at an early stage. And starting an intervention now could slow the progression of it down.

I can't comment on how high insulin levels make you feel. But starting on Metformin sounds like a good idea. It should reduce those insulin levels, relieving the stress on your beta cells. And if it makes you feel better too, that would be a bonus!

Cheers,

Mark
