My hands are so dry that they crack, and bleed everytime I move them (yes, even when I type) in the winter. What is weird, is that it is only on my hands. Some people told me that it was because I wash my hands too much, but it isn't so. No lotion seems to help more than a few minutes. Do you have any ideas of a good moisturizor I could use?

Try Cetaphil.

You might want to try putting on lotion before you go to bed and then wearing a cotton-type glove on your hands so that the lotion can really soak into your hands.

I would recommend that you try Vanicream. It worked wonders for me!

Sounds like excema. Use good moisturizers, aloe is excellent. I use Avon skin lotion with aloe and calms it within a minute after application. You must experiment to find what works for you. Dryer weather makes it worse. And try to work hands in cold water for a few seconds, puts moisture back in the skin. And moisturize. Good luck, hon.

I have suffered with extremely dry hands for about 8 years now...year-round!

You can go to the doctor and get a prescription for your hands, or, you can buy Vaseline Intensive Care Extra Strength with Vitamin E....white squeeze bottle with blue cap (not a tube). I slather it on before bed and cover my hands with thin cotton gloves (or thick socks will work) for heat, and they prevent your sheets from wiping it off. As for the bad cracks, I would recommend Liquid Bandage Skin Crack Gel. It's expensive ($15 cdn for 10 doses), but it really works. It blocks out water, dirt and germs, and one dose lasts for about 5 days before you need to reapply it (usually cut is gone by then anyway).

Take care and good luck!

P.S. wear good gloves or mitts EVERY time you go outside...even in a heated car! The surrounding air is so dry that it will remove any moisture from your hands...that's why our faces get so dry too. Never let the winter see your bare hands...ever. It works.

My husband is a mailman. Every year around this time the cracking of his hands starts. He has tried everything, but this is what he came up with a few years ago and it really works.

For the cracks, use Neosporin to help them heal. Put on a thick cream like Eucerin or Cetaphil and then put on latex gloves. He also wears the latex gloves with fingerless gloves when he delivers mail. He looks kind of funny because the latex gloves are baby blue, but he hasn't had any problem for 2 winters now.

I hope you find a solution. Good luck.
