Hi there. this is my first time here. I am a little afraid of going to a doctor, so i wondered if anyone here could help me get some ideas of what could be wrong with me before i go. It is hard to describe but I will try...
I basically have a dull background pain in my back. sometimes it is in the upper part, sometimes the lower. When I feel my spine with my hands is what really worries me though. the vertibre are not in line with one another neer the top of my back. I have 4 or 5 that seem like they have slid off of where they should be. The only idea that i have found would be that i might have Spondylolysis. It is the most common with young athletes who play sports that can be hard on the back. I have played tennis for many years. I am only 18 and am seriosly concerned about what the implications of whatever my problem is could be. Any thoughts would be helpfull. Thank you.

Put your mind at ease and see your family dr. You might want to lay off the tennis for a week or so, lay on a heating pad, take long hot soaks in the tub...and don't do any heavy lifting, running, etc. In other words, give your back a rest. If that doesn't help, the next step is to see your doctor and let him evaluate what is going on. There are so many things it "might" be that you would go crazy just guessing.

I hope this turns out to simply be a case of muscle strain and that some rest will take care of it.

I got an appointment for this coming tuesday to see what the doctor thinks. oh boy am I scared... Being kind of a pessimist, I always expect the worst...
I cant actually afford to be unable to work right now because of car payments, what should I do? I think I have waited too long as it is...

Welcome to the Board

Glad you made an appointment.

Carol gave you excellent advice & chances are you've got yourself much more worried by NOT seeing a doc than need be.

The initial exam is nothing to be frightened of - hopefully an X-Ray and evaluation will be all that is needed ~ and when you get answers to all of your questions, perhaps you'll have nothing to worry over.

Please let us know what doc says
