I want to know if anyone has this problem also. Sometimes I can't fall asleep at all and am up all night, which is a common problem with Fibro. Then I get these bouts, and it seems to last for a week or so when I'm sleeping 16 hours a day. I just can't up. When I do I am so exhausted from doing nothing I can't stay awake. It is like I can't move a muscle I get so tired. This along with the chronic pain and stiffness is making my life miserable. Anyone else have these bouts of sleeping all the time?

I get this all the time! I'm either Rip Van Wrinkle or Mega Insominac. LOL.

Last night it took me 6 hours to go to sleep even with sleep medication. Then I woke up every 2 hours. It's a hard cycle for anyone to be in especially Fibro suffers. I feel tired to my bones whether I'm sleeping 11 hours a night or 3. And with the muscle aches it's like having your body beat itself up inside out!

I tend to go through bouts of sleep issues similar to what you describe. Right now I'm in the not getting sleep phase which I'm sure is being influenced by the prednisone that I'm on for Lupus complications. But, earlier this summer IF I could get to sleep I was sleeping 10-12 hours every night & still tired. It's not even funny how many things I've tried. People who haven't suffered with Fibro or health issues just think it's an easy fix. Like drinking a glassing of warm milk. Heck I'd have drank 6 glasses of warm milk last night if it would of helped. (Okay I'll admit it I did get desperate & drank 2 glasses of milk at midnight - sadly no help!).

Have you talked to your doctor about the sleep issues? How's this affecting your work?

I have the same exact problem, it's hooorriibbllee. Then when I go to see doctors, they ask about my sleeping and I always have difficulty explaining because many times I will go for weeks or even months without sleeping more than 3-6 hours a night and then suddenly I will start sleeping aaallll day (but possibly feel even more tired than the periods of no sleep). Fibro isn't the agreed upon diagnosis among my doctors yet because they are still trying to rule other things out (recent developments suggest I have some crazy thyroid problem) but I do experience this same problem..

Yes, I have similar patterns. I've overdone it for the past few days, and today am paying for it mightily. Most days, I get about six or seven hours of up-time, then sleep a while, get up again, then sleep again.
It depresses me. And I find that when I am in exhaustion-mode, I get very, very low in spirit. Does anyone else experience this? Often, I think it's severe depression, and it is fatigue.
Best to everyone here, I am so glad this board and all of you are here,

Seaturtle
