View Full Version : Vision problems

About 4 months ago I began having problems with my left eye. I was not able to see as clearly thru it as my right and I pretty much rely on my right eye for reading road signs now because of how close I have to be to make out the words clearly.

My optimologist told me I have swelling in my left eye and I have developed bleeding blood vessels. That is what is clouding my vision. They are going to operate using a laser in a month or so once we get results back from the lab too see how bad it is.

I am really worried. I am afraid I will never get my vision back in my left eye. Has anyone here had this type of surgery done to cllse off the blood vessels before? Did you vision return to "normal" My doctor would not give me a new perscription for glasses in the meantime as she said my vision could get worse still. I am perfectly aware that the glasses could only be usefull for a few months but I need something to help me drive when I do not want to wear contacts.

Anyone out there that can help me with some advice? I am taking very good care of my sugar levels now. I am probally the PERFECT person to go to about if someone you know isn't taking this disease seriously. Im only 28. I am afraid of going blind and if I just took this disease more seriously when I was in my early teens/20's Im sure I would not have this problem today. 28 is still very young to get something like this. Im so afraid of what condition I could be in at 50. If I make it.

the expected results should have been mentioned to you, the problem is from your too high bloodsugar readings, is it?
generally laser treatment stops things from getting worse but doesnt make things any better, for the treatment of diabetic eye damage

The problem I'm having is when i developed this problem my bloodsugar was not well manager. I have since fixed that problem and I have seen a optimologist for about 4 months now once a month. She had told me the "swelling is going down and looking better" each visit. Well last week I went to my monthly appt and she was not there. Instead I saw another Dr who looked at eye and this is when the talk of surgery started coming up. That Dr. called in another Dr look at my eye for a 2nd opinion. Both Dr.'s asked me if I had laser surgery in the past. I thought this was starnge as I never had laser surgery.

Both Dr's asking me if I had laser surgery must mean something is not right there but my original Dr never asked.

Don't drive, Sweetie. I know you need a car these days to get to school, work, etc but driving could become another issue. Wait until after your surgery.

Keep your sugar under tight control, don't let up. Make it your goal even when you get down about having this problem at such a young age. Are you overweight and do you have high blood pressure? That also affects your eyesight. Don't stop fighting this disease and see only a grim future. Be happy that you caught it now. The laser surgery will stop the progression, you will get your new glasses and go from there.

I wish you all the best. :)
