Just curious, last night I happened to catch the end of a commercial, and they were saying that a podiatrist could spot potential diabetes by looking at ones feet. Does anybody have any ideas as to what a podiatrist could spot in an exam, that could tip him off that a patient has diabetes?

Two things. One would be a foot ulcer, which might not be felt by the patient if neuropathy had already set in.
The other is by doing a monofilament test or tuning fork test to determine if there is nerve damage to the feet. Nerve damage is often an indicator of diabetes, especially Type 2, that has gone undiagnosed for a while.
