That I should have it removed depending on how it is after a year or two. I am 17 years old now and he said my wisdom tooth is only exposed partially.
He says that there is a chance that I can get an infection because stuff can get inside the gum and infect that area.
My question is...do I have to have it removed? The reason I'm asking is because I have never had an infection there before, no pain, no nothing.
Secondly, Will a year or two make a difference? I am 17 after all, will the tooth continue to grow at this age?
Thanks!

Hello
I have been a dental assistant for about four years. I have seen partially erupted wisdom teeth become infected. If your dentist says it's time to get your tooth out you should trust his professional opinion. I know the dentist I work with wouldn't recommend doing something on a patient that he wouldn't do on his own wife or children if they were in the same situation. Just so you know, infection interferes with local anesthesia, so you may want to get it out while it is still healthy. Good luck.
