Is this normal w/ Fibro? I've never had a problem w/ it in the past, but I'm really hurting from it lately. What can I do to relieve it?

hi klee,
welcome new friend, welcome. here is what i do, and remember, sometimes nothing helps. it's just part of the cycle. i take stool softners morning and night. this ensures i will pass all the gas in the late evening and early morning. sometimes i bloat up so much i can't wear my pants. going out nude seems to be a no no so i keep a couple of sizes available (tho not this year, i goofed and gave all my pants away, then bought only one size.) every time i eat my tummy bloats out. it is a family thing. we all do it and i always have.
drink plenty of water. eat high fiber foods. stool softners. fresh greens. oh yea, and for the pain i take belladonna. not every day as it is a narcotic. exercise helps keep things moving properly, especially walking. tummy massage in a downward motion to stimulate your intestins to move things along.
guess that's it. i hope you feel better soon. it will pass. that is the cool thing about fm. it cycles so you know that days of freedom will come again, even if only for a bit.
peace,
bluelakelady

I am a member of the bloating and gas club. Have been having a really bad time with it lately, nothing seems to help. I take metamucil or benefiber ever other night and still have it. I have a medicine chest with gas x, malox etc, nothing helps at all. I tried watching foods but find no rhyme or reason for this, nothing seems to attribute to the discomfort. I am keeping a food diary and so far no luck in finding the culprits. I do have IBS and Diverticulous.

I was just reading Staryln's book and she says we develop a fat pad over our stomach and have to get rid of that to get rid of the gas. I think I need mine surgically rermoved.

Hugs, Linda

Hi Klee!

As you know by now, this is a normal thing for people with fibro. I was able to eliminate a lot of the bloating/gas by paying attention to certain vegetables (no broccoli, onions, green peppers), and eating a lower carb diet. I eliminated as much sugar as I could also, including examining labels for high fructose corn syrup. I also eat whole wheat cereals and breads. Just eating a more balanced diet overall really helped me. You might have to experiment with some of the ideas people posted and see what works for you. Everybody is a unique machine with different needs.

Blessings,
Kirstee
