View Full Version : Intentional Replantation

Has anyone ever heard of this procedure? I had a root canal done almost a year ago that caused me constant pain and soreness. Finally on Monday my dentist did
an Intentional Replantation. He extracted the tooth and when he did, there was an abscess that could not be seen on the x rays. He took off the abscess, drilled holes in the roots of the tooth, cleaned and sealed them and then put the tooth back in the socket.
My tooth is still soreand I am having pain that wakes me up at night 4 days later, but I don't really
know what to expect after this procedure. Does anyone know how long this will take to heal and what the success rate is? Is my pain normal? Thank you.

I have no idea what the success rate is on something like that, but it is VERY INTERESTING. The dentist I work with talks about a case a few years ago where the second molar had to come out, but the wisdom tooth was still good and had the same shaped roots, so they took out both teeth and put the wisdom tooth in place of the second molar. It was successful. Certainly not common. Your question was posted over a week ago, how are you feeling now? What did your dentist say?

My tooth is finally feeling a lot better. It was a rough couple of weeks, but now I can chew on it and it's really not sore at all. I'm really hoping that this will save the tooth. My dentist said it is healing fine and will eventually re attach to the bone.
Thanks for asking!
