I have had problems with my teeth and jawbones for years. Finally, I have had to get an upper and lower partial plate, though it really feels like it should be a full denture considering that I only have a few molars left.
Anyhow, because of my disability and financial status, I was able to go on medicaid to get a lot of this work covered. I am thankful. Don't get me wrong. (I worked for many years before becoming disabled so I know I have well paid into the system in the past for what I am receiving in the present).
The problem I am having is that my plates had to be metal because of the medicaid. I have an awful metallic taste in my mouth all the time. I was told that the acrylic ones were not covered by medicaid. These not only feel heavy but are uncomfortable because, as the dentist put it, my crossbite and the position of the teeth removed and replaced on the plate.
Does anyone have a clue what I can do to get rid of this metal taste? According to my regular doctor, rheumatologist, and dentist - a lot of my oral problems are a direct result of my health condition of lupus. I also have degenerative joint disease, neuropathy, and an eye disease that has caused almost total blindness.
Any ideas?
