Does anyone here avoid getting a haircut I have because I am afraid of being confined to the chair what if I have to run out in the middle of the haircut. I really need my hair cut too it looks terrible

I hate the hair salon...for so many reasons, anxiety included. I cut the front of my hair myself and get my husband to trim the back. I think I've had the same hairstyle for five years...lol!

Just the other day I had my hair cut, colored, and streaked. It took two hours, and at first it was a little difficult. But lucky for me, I was having a "good" day and I made it no problem.

I have to take a Xanax before every hair appointment. What really sucks is when I have to take a Xanax before getting a massage or a facial. Those things are so relaxing to me, but I can't stop thinking what if I have to get up and leave fast and I am practically naked?!!

Yeah I feel exactly the same. Since I have had this panic dissorder for the last 3 years, I have not been able to go to the hairdresses. My mum trims my hair for me.

I also have the problem with dentist and optitions too ...... :(

who me? my doc wont prescribe me anything. just beta blockers... :S

beta blockers wont help, hey they do sell a product called anxietrol-7 maybe that can help your anxiety.

It's funny that I saw this post today, I haven't been on here in awhile, but just today I had the same situation!! I phoned and made the apointment at the salon, and after hanging up the phone started feeling anxious. I had to take ativan before going, and when I got there, I actually walked back and forth in front of the building before going in. It was aweful. It should be a relaxing thing, but I just hate being confined in the chair (what if I had to leave and my hair was only half cut??? :rolleyes: )

Oh, I got it alright, but it's been 8 hours since I got home, and I'm still feeling the effects of the anxiety!!

That's funny that's what I think what if my hair is half cut I picutre myself jumping off the chair and running out the door. Last week I went to pathmark it was so crowed because of Thanksgiving I left a cart full of food I can't tell you how many times I have done this.

I eventually started cutting my own hair, found it easy and still do it to save money
