So I asked a woman who works closely with makeup and she told me that since mineral makeup is made up of such large granules it actually creates small cuts and irritations in the skin when brushed on. Even over moisturizer. This actually makes sense because I always noticed my skin felt rougher after wearing it! Anyone else have any experiences?

I tried researching this online but I always seem to come up with sites trying to sell stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised. I heard the same thing about the St.Ives Apricot Scrub. But I've never used either.

Np, that's what I read somewhere...in fact I think it may have been on this forum. Apparently the damage becomes apparent overtime.

You could pick any product out there on the market and find something bad to say about it. None are going to be any better than the others.
If you stop using mineral makeup, you'll go back to liquid - what then when someone points out some way it's damaging your skin, too? Because there is someone who can let you know why liquid is just as bad.

I'll still be using my mineral makeup.

what brand of mineral makeup works?

LostMyHeart has it exact; what's worse? I mean, the best thing to do is wear no makeup, but who's doin' that? Let's consider here. Pretty much everything you do is bad for your skin. If you're out in the sun for longer than 10 minutes, that's bad for your skin. You get an inch and scratch, that's terrible for your skin. You put on any kind of foundation, and you're basically coating your skin with chemicals and pigments. Mineral foundation to me is the better option. Nearly everything can be proven to "cause small cuts in the skin" from microdermabrasion to sleeping on a cotton pillowcase. The skin is a tough organ that is engineered to take such things.

My mineral makeup is staying in my makeup bag for sure..

I don't think I wrote for anyone to stop using it if they like it, I'm just wondering if anyone has had a problem similar to the one I had with mineral makeup. Everything does cause small abrasions to the skin yes, but this stuff I could FEEL the difference and what it was doing to the surface of my face.

I've been using Bare Escentuals Mineral Makeup for over 4 years now and I love it more every year! My complexion/face has never looked better.

I did however use ME mineral makeup and I hated it. While it seemed to go on easier than BE, it didn't last throughout the day but still gave me that urge to go wash my face just around dinner time (same urge I used to get with liquid foundations, like my pores are suffocating and need to breathe!) I've never gone to bed without washing my face, but with BE I feel that I probably could and not have it bother me.

Happy Turkey Day all!

I've been using BE for 6 months now and my skin has never looked better. In fact, I had alot of red marks and uneven skin tone before I started using it. I never went anywhere without makeup. Now my skin is more even toned and soft and I can go without. It also drastically reduced the redness around the creases of my nose. Last week I tried to use my old makeup and I couldnt stand it....felt like a mask.

The deal with mineral make up is the grind of the minerals. The products like sheercover are finely ground.. others arent as finely ground and I can see where your friend would think it would abrade the skin, but her blanket statement isnt correct. The finer the grind the less it clogs pores and aids acne prevention... also the more natural it looks and the more non irritating it is. Thats the whole liquid VS mineral saga. Mineral makeup is not soluable in water and sheilds the skin from moisture getting into the pores when worn. If moisture to get into the pores the bacteria that feeds acne dies. The primary ingredients within mineral makeup are Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. so this makes it a natural sunscreen too.

Some private label mineral make ups and home mades are not finely ground. Cheaper but youll never get the look of a fine grind with these. So the extra money is worth it, especailly when you use so little inthe first place. ;)

I was a long time Ultima II wearer.. the old liquid foundation. When I was about 30 my mom got me mineral makeup as a gift since I was constantly breaking out. I never went back to liquid. This mineral makeup is GREAT in my case. :D
