Hello. I am taking beta blockers for my anxiety. It is so bad though and ruining my life, stopping me from doing things I want to do.

My doctor wont prescribe me a benzo (eg Xanax) because she says I am too young (19) for a medicine like that, and that it is too addictive.

I have tried an anti depressant (Prozac) for just 3 months, I felt quite happy, but the anxiety did not go down.

I was researching on anxiety meds and I come across Buspar, it did not say what type it is, like an anti depressant or a benzo. Just said an Anti Anxiety med.

Does anyone know what, like, type it is?

Because maybe I could suggest it to my doctor if it is not a benzo... ?

Hi, I am not sure why she is giving you beta blockers, that just lowers your blood pressure, you need something for anxiety not depression, in my case the anxiety causes depression, why dont you find another doctor that can prescribe xanax or soemthing better than buspar, I tried buspar but it didnt work much.

Hi! The only info I could get on BuSpar was that it is NOT a benzo and that you shouldn't take it in conjunction with MAOIs.

Hope that helps a little!

Because they do help a little, like they stop my heart from racing and beating so hard and fast. But that is all, does not help with all the mental things running through my mind.

She put me on an anti depressant last year because she said i was depressed. i was feeling very down and tearful but you are right, it was because my anxiety was, and still is, getting me down.

Well, my previous doctor he just prescribed beta blockers too.... :(

Do you know what type buspar is? is it a benzo type?

I live in England, and i think it is mainly here where they dont give out benzos, but they dish out anti depressants like they are little sweets or something!

MAOI is an acronym for Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor. A couple of examples would be Nardil and Parnate. You'd probably know if you were taking one :).
