I was diagnosed with type II diabetes back in Sept..and took a while to get my blood sugar medicine regulated.Actually still working on that. LOL My question is this: I take amaryl(Glemepiride) morning and evening..but now the doctor also added glucophage (metformin) in the evening because my blood sugar is still higher than what the dr. wants in the morning. How long does it take to see results? It's only been a few days taking the glucophage..and the sugar is not down yet. Should I give it a bit longer..before calling my doctor. It runs between 160-190 in the morning...before I eat. He wants it under 120. During the day...it's just fine.

It does take time for the medications to work. A lot also depends on what else the doctor has had you change in your lifestyle. You did not say. Medications alone will not straighten out your blood sugars. Medications are necessary with a lot, if not most, type 2 diabetics to bring down the numbers, but not by themselves. Exercise and diet changes are just as important for us. For me exercise is the most difficult - diet is the most difficult for a lot of people. We have been who we are for so long it is difficult to make big lifestyle changes quickly, if at all.

Thanks for replying. I think I need to exercise more...even if it's just taking walks. I have changed my eating habits..but might need to be even more strict. But we'll see how it goes.
